Having lost their opening fixture against Crystal Palace with a seemingly perfectly good goal from ex Potters frontman Cameron Jerome being ruled out for ‘dangerous play’, the Canaries didn’t dwell on their misfortune of the previous week as they immediately took control of proceedings in the North East. An assured first half performance saw City head into the break with the game effectively over as a contest, Captain Russell Martin opening the scoring on 26 minutes before Steven Whittaker finished off a great move to put the Canaries two goals to the good 8 minutes before the interval. In form winger Nathan Redmond completed the scoring for the visitors midway through the second period with an abject Sunderland offering little in the way of resistance until youngster Duncan Watmore entered the fray. His enthusiastic running and chasing down eventually being rewarded with a consolation goal for the Mackems. In truth however the 3-1 final scoreline somewhat flattered the home side and they should really consider themselves lucky not to have been on the receiving end of a 5 or 6 goal rout. please log in to view this image Johnny Howson celebrates with City goalscorer Nathan Redmond While the Canaries were chalking up their first points of the season Stoke City were playing out a 2-2 stalemate against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane. The Potters had lost their opener 1-0 in a tight encounter at the Brittania against Liverpool and headed to the Capital looking to chalk up their first points on the board. However at half-time things were not exactly going to plan, Eric Dier headed the ball home from a corner on 19 minutes with Nacer Chadli volleying into the net at the back post on the stoke of half-time to put the hosts two up. Whatever Stoke boss Mark Hughes said in the half-time dressing room certainly worked as the visitors rallied with Marko Arnautovic pulling a goal back from the penalty spot after Toby Alderweireld brought down Joselu. The comeback was complete when Mame Diouf secured a point heading home Stephen Ireland's cross. please log in to view this image Mame Diouf scorer of the Potters late equaliser at White Hart Lane It’s possible that Canaries chief Alex Neil could well select the same side to take on the Potters tomorrow but he has a habit of throwing in a curve ball just to keep the opposition and fans alike guessing. Neil seems to prefer playing with a lone striker and with Stoke being the opposition on Saturday it is highly likely that Cameron Jerome will retain his starting position up front against his old club. Injured trio Kyle Lafferty, Youssouf Mulumbu and Martin Olsson remain on the sidelines and are the only ones definitely not up for selection. Stoke manager Mark Hughes says club record signing Xherdan Shaqiri will be involved at some stage and could even make the starting line up. Marc Wilson could make his first appearance of the season after his injury but Bojan Krkic is more likely to return to action on Tuesday in the League Cup against Luton Town. Alex Neil’s Match Preview Alex Neil previews tomorrow's game “The players deserve all the plaudits that they’re getting at the moment, but the Sunderland game is done and we need to move on to the next one,” he said. “We played really well again. I thought we played really well in the first game against Crystal Palace, albeit we didn’t get a result.” “I think the players will take a lot of confidence from the manner with which we played, and the fact that we won the game so convincingly. “We want to make sure that our home form is good, and hopefully we can start that on Saturday.” Mark Hughes’ Match Preview Mark Hughes' thoughts “I think we will learn from the first half of last weekend’s game and rectify what we weren’t able to do during those 45 minutes this time round,” “There were one or two key things that we weren’t able to do to the best of our ability and that cost us a couple of goals, which probably could have been avoided. “We have looked at that though and hopefully we can start a lot brighter this weekend and start the game on the front foot. “We have to nullify the threats they have and then show good quality moving forward, which I feel we are able to do now, especially given the amount of quality players we have inside the building.” “We are excited by the weekend, we are looking forward to the game and we want to build upon what we did in the second half of the game against Tottenham.” Current Form (most recent first) Norwich City WLWWD NORWICH HOME Norwich have won 4, drawn 4 and lost 1 of the last 9 stagings of this fixture, outscoring their opponents by 9 goals to 6. Didn't realise we had such a good record against Stoke. I do always feel confident when playing them!
Interesting to hear that Mark Hughes Presser as well. He clearly remembers from his own career that Fortress CR is a tough place to come. I enjoyed listening to that.
Good read that. Think we can add Peter Crouch to the list of club connections. Hard to believe he was playing for us in 2003.
When I was a school boy, Stoke was a club laughed about a la Accrington Stanley. Look how far they have come since. Still - the bigger they come........
Got a ticket for today's game last minute.com so won't be posting team line ups etc. until this evening. Up in the Gods in the N & P so should be nice and cool out of the Sun. I've got a good feeling about today, think we'll sneak it 2-1
Bloody hell! Matthews isn't playing is he? Super job KIO, enjoy your day in the N & P and hope that your journey home is joyful.
I'm in the lower N&P and thankfully out of the sun. I'm the good looking one in the new home strip!!! Agree re the score and CJ to bag one against his former club.
Good opening post with all the history between the two teams. I have supported Stoke since 1960 and well remember that 6-0 thrashing we suffered in 1963... we did go on and win the Div 2 title that season though. Everyone at Stoke is excited at the prospect of Shaqiri making his debut this afternoon but Carrow Road is a tough place for Stoke so I would take a draw but hope for a win. Just watch Jerome score for you though!!
Awesome thread as per usual Kio, I am sitting outside gregs bank plain predicting an astounding 3-0 win and have seen all three of our kits being worn in the last ten minutes and even our horrible 3rd kit looks so much better in the flesh as it were
Unchanged lineup from the Sunderland game. No surprises on the bench either, so no space for Andre, Odjidja or RvW.
