Express think Derby are going to come back with a bid for our skipper.. I know there were strong links but in May but it went all quiet Having signed the "Prince" my worry would be we might consider such an offer if true but hopefully Dyche can persuade the board to reject any offers as he is so vital to our team with the experience and leadership he brings.
Agreed Mark I think the Prince will be cowies replacement though! I cant see how its a better move for Eusty Same goes for him as tiny finish his playing days here , get his badges move into the coaching side , then think about management! As stated previously no better place for that than the Vic!
mmm not sure about this. How long do we think Eustace can continue to "do a job" for Watford? A while ago I suggested the team needed some major reinforcements, suggesting that some of the players we have come to rely on may not last another full season, Eustace was one of those I had in mind. Clearly our present problem is to build on "what we have left", so we don't want him to leave. At the moment for my money its all about team strengthening, so I don't him to leave now, but might consider it a little later.
Derby would be a backward step Eustace has the captancy here and is settled. If he was going to move it would have been Dirty Leeds last year. I could be proved wrong but I would be very surprised if he moved on. Eustace is a vital cog in our team with everytghing going through him.
i agree Tiverton...i can't see he'd think of this as an advance, unless they offered him a lot more money, then i suppose he might be tempted. I'd hope the board would rebuff any offers though..
I really cant see anyone getting hold of Eustace. He knows he is getting on now and that he is settled here and well respected. I would expect this to be his home till he takes up coaching.
I guess it migh come down to money. I think he'll only go if it is a very high wage increase, as this might be his last big contract.... so he obviously has his family and future to think about! I hope he does stay, I think he has 1 or 2 good seasons left in him - an hopefully that can be with us. I thnk he is vital to keep a stabalised squad, and for the progress of Jenkins, who I see as his long term replacement! I'm sure the board will reject any offers for him... he is our captain, and I don't think Derby will be offering 'silly' money for him
Me too.... To lose our captain, top goalscorer and arguably our most creative player in the same window would be tough! This one is certainly in our own hands and without JE pushing for a move (which I don't think he would), I can't see him going anywhere!
I don't think it is fair on John Eustace to expect 46 games plus from him next season - I thought that he looked very tired towards the end of last season and the likes of Jenkins and other young talent need to be playing more regularly.
In truth he's probably not got many playing seasons left and will find it difficult to be everpresent therefore he should be looking to the best way to set himself up for the next 25 years which is to transition into more of the off field stuff which is where there is no better place to learn in any division than Watford.
Yates and Forsyth replace Buckley and allow us to consider Deeney as a striker (unless we later come to the conclusion that Deeney is better than them out wide). Prince would seem to be a replacement for Cowie, and we might actually play him in the middle. Mirfin was a no-brainer because we surely won't get as lucky with centre back fitness this season as we were last time. Because we have Jenkins and Walker, I'm afraid that we might listen to bids for Eustace. But surely nobody would be willing to pay the sort of money that it would be worth us even considering.
One other thing: Prince came out the other day and said he can play right back. You don't go and say that unless you're happy to do it. Maybe we should put him there, Forsyth at left back, and then it would truly be just like watching Brazil.
