We were going to sign Mccormack and Ledley for a combined £6m under Brownie but didn't. Their individual values now are probably double that each.
Much like how the team always plays the same under every manager the clubs transfer dealings always seem to go the same way. Once the window opens nothing happens for 2-3 weeks then 2 maybe 3 players come in a week or so before the season starts then we only sign new players right before away games so they never make their debut at home. Usually deadline day comes around and we either do nothing or sign a load of players who are 90% of the time a load of crap. Regarding Andre Gray I worry that he really is the only player Bruce wants and if we don't get him then we won't get anybody else or we get some bargain bin deadline day deal like Ben Arfa was last summer.
Terry Neill wanted to sign a young Frank Stapleton from Arsenal but Needler wouldn't stump up the cash.
Who can forget how close we were to snapping up a Negredo & Cavani double deal... http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/fo...lvaro-Negredo-were-nearly-Phil-Brown-bargains
We were fairly close to getting Gestede last season weren't we? He would have been perfect for the horrendous crossing tactics Bruce employed and may well have kept us up.
