Discovered this morning that epic choral music makes for great workouts, in particular Two Steps From Hell: Archangel... bit of a weird one for me, never been into that **** before. Anybody else got any suggestions for different motivational music? 95% of my ipod is hip hop but I hear Metal is a good genre for the gym, I'd not have a clue where to start with that **** mind.
My trainer often has a bit of metal blasting. From Sabbath to Rammstein. Sometimes I have to laugh at the ridiculousness of it, but it gets (keeps) you gannin. Kashmir is a good one for just pluggin away through a set (rowing, or hill climbs on a bike)... Bear with the video, not quite what it appears...whatever that may be. I found it amusing anyway - there's even one in there for Billy: Mad German bastards....party looks canny at the end though.
I always kept myself fit - or so I thought - but could never really motivate myself to go to the gym. Last year I signed up to do a quadrathlon - 1 mile open water swim, 15 mile fell run over 7 Munro's, 11k kayak & 50k bike ride. Trained for 10 months, getting up to 6 days a week training - learned to swim properly, learned to kayak and learned to ride a bike (I had already cracked being able to run!) Dropped 2 stone and 3 inches off my waist and completed it this July on my 54th birthday. Have already signed up for next year and am hoping to do an iron man next year as well. I tried to find a personal trainer to help me but they're invariably one dimensioned in what they can do with most of them only able to get fat unfit people to lose weight. Gave up in the end but if anybody knows of a good triathlete coach in the north east then let me know.
That's pretty impressive fella, i must say!! I'm doing a mini-tri on Saturday, with very broken training. I just want to get the swim over with,
,.got cut off then. Anyhow, That's proper dedication fella. Ten months, How the hell do you get 6 days a week in over that long a time? I guess learning new disciplines helps keep the interest levels up.
I was doing it as part of a two man team and just the desire to make sure I didn't let my mate down drove me on. I really enjoyed learning the new skills especially open water swimming which is completely different to going up and down in the pool for length after length. in the end I found the swimming the easiest - the bike nearly broke me though. I really need to improve that this winter. Spending time on the gym bikes is one thing but an hour or so on the road is about 5 times harder!!
I started working out at the gym 3 years ago, attending 5 days a week after work to help me stop smoking. It worked a treat and 3 years on I still have no trouble at all motivating myself to go to the gym straight from work Monday to Friday, as it helps me unwind and de-stress from my job. I'd be interested in any fellow gym bunnies who are able to answer this question for me..... Why do people think they're in a race when they go on rowing machines? Boils my piss when they don't use the proper technique to row! ....and don't get me started on ****ing mobile phones in the gym!
Team training, good stuff. Funny how we all differ. Sounds like Santa's getting Riever a turbo trainer for christmas.
Mobile Phones in the gym boils my piss, so does people doing curls or rows in the squat rack. If you're not doing squats you don't belong in the squat rack.
Thing is mate, I wouldn't know what to listen to, I'd probably just pick the first couple on Youtube and if I don't like them songs I'll write off the artist altogether. That Drowning Pool: Let the bodies hit the floor, always gets voted very highly in gym playlist songs, can see why but I don't really like it.
