For anyone who missed it, here's last nights interview with Steve Harper, he was remarkably candid...
Some of the things were interesting to hear. Interesting that he picked out the 3-5-2 and lack of attacking training drills as the reasons for not scoring. Interesting to hear his comments about Bruce's confidence in ****ushitic. Interesting to hear his comments on Abel considering all the knowledgable posters on here claiming Abel is a twat, never tries and doesn't give a **** etc with absolute certainty. Interesting that he didn't comment about City fans sitting down.
Didn't pull any punches regards McGregor, got the impression he's not all that taken with his ability as a keeper.
I disagree, he commented that he pulled off some amazing saves, but thinks too much about his actions. He is saying he is a talented keeper that is let down by too much self analysis.
Always been impressed when I've heard Harper....think he would make a good coach/manager. Certainly wouldn't mind him and Barmby back some day in tandem.
He said he's good when he's more instinctive, but it's very hard to change someone's habits (in this case of over-analysis).
I felt he spoke very honest about everything. Seems to think we need a new GK because of his poor form and of his lack of effort to improve himself. I'd welcome Harper back as a GK coach, seemed to know what McGregor's faults were and what he needed to do to put them right.
Would like to see him back as a goalkeeper coach.. i dont think our current coach is doing too well given all the mistakes mcgregor and jak have made over the past few seasons..
A superb listen. Very candid. If SB is wanting a new gk then get Harper back. Wont cost that much either.
It really is one of the most candid interviews I have heard a player or ex player give, a very honest assessment of what went on when he was with us.
