This I think is very true and I imagine is what will happen with Depay and Pedro also. I really can't see any of those 3 playing effectively as a centre forward. This is the kind of thing I don't agree with.
To be fair Chelsea have been doing well enough with only one recognised first choice CF, even one who is crocked and off his game half the time. With Rooney up front supported by two of Depay, Pedro and Bale we would carry a massive goal threat, even if Wilson or one of those three had to come in for Rooney in some games.
The classic centre forward no longer exists at the top level. So there's nothing to be concerned about. There's more than enough goals in an attack of Depay, Rooney and Pedro. Pedros record is very impressive and Depay was top scorer in Holland last season. Rooneys always going to get double figures regardless of where he plays or his form. I expect at least 40 between the 3, and that's being reserved. Lots of noise about us getting Harry Kane in as well which will bolster our ranks too. As for Woodward embarrassing the club... Depay - one of the worlds highest rated up and coming stars Schneiderlin - one of the premier leagues best midfielders Schweinsteiger - one of the worlds all time greats Darmain - Italian international right back Pedro - Barcelonas second best goal scorer since 2009. Only bettered by that argie midget Pedro is unconfirmed but likely, I would say the above constitutes one hell of a transfer window. Nothing embarrassing about it whatsoever.
We've bought well, no doubt at all. Maybe a centre half would complete the squad but I think we can get by.
I look back to last season when Rooney wasnt playing as a striker and the difficulty we had in breaking teams down. That was partly down to Rooney actually being played in CM which has been solved with our new CMs, but it was also down to a lack of a proper CF up front. In 4 comps, particularly the CL, I'm still not convinced Pedro or Depay will make up for Rooney's absence. That's my only reason for wanting another proven striker tbh. Pedro and Depay doing what they do, in the role they're designed to play, will hopefully be good. But LVG has history of sticking a winger behind a CF or winger as a CF, both in the World Cup and for United last season, and it didnt work on either occasion.
He also has a history of playing 433, which is exactly what he's said he's going to do this season. Pre season was about getting players fit and trying a few things. Expect 433, 1 cf and two wide forward in almost every game. I wouldn't consider two attempts at something a 'history' either. Unless he's also got a history of turning right wingers into world class midfielders or traditional wingers into wide forwards. Both of which he's also done.
Your first point doesnt really tackle Rooney getting injured. Second paragraph...ah you mean like when he played 3 at the back in the WC and then decided to implement that insuccessfully with us? That kind of history? You also just spoke about pre-season being about him trying a few things. Playing Depay as an AM was one of those things
There's a big difference between his first ore season, one which happened to immediately after a World Cup, to this one. But you knew that already I suspect. This time he's had far more time. He knows what he wants and he's able to try a few things. Some didn't work as you've pointed out (thanks). It doesn't mean depay will spend the season as a number 10 though (he might play there though every so often, breathe treble, breathe). If Rooney is injured (he will be) then if it's for a short period of time, with the fire power we have, I wouldn't be too concerned. Hernandez is always going to score given a chance and depay or Pedro can be make shift strikers. I do think we need a striker though, as while we have enough fire power, it's better to be sure.
I'm beginning to think Wenger and Mourhino are paying the spanish clubs to keep Woodward busy with this bollox every year. Tell them to gtf!!!
This sums up my OP perfectly... United's transfer policy is like a dog chasing balloons around a park. Bale! BALEBALEBALE...PEDRO! Pedro Pedro Ped...wait...MULLER! Muller!
That is funny and very true. I prefer your funny posts like this and Fabregas over doom-mongering over United and Rooney
