How do you know he wasn't? There has been talk for us going for Gray all summer and many believe he was the player Cotts was quoted £7million for

That is my understanding and when Plan B (Gayle) wouldn't come we went back to Plan A and renegotiated

I skived off work and went to that game. As you said most one sided match ever. When I got back I had a number of calls from mates saying we saw you on sky sports eating a pastie. Luckily the boss did not see it.

'In fact,Sean Dyche signed the season before (when we got promoted), and Vilmos Sebok was signed half way through the relegation season (98/99). The three defenders we signed that season were Sebok and Tistimetanu (in December) and Julian Watts at the start of the season'

Whenever we signed these defenders it highlights we spent millions more on strikers.
    Decisions we lived to regret.

"How do you know he wasn't?"

I don't... but I didn't say I did or even imply I did. I simply wanted to know if I had missed something...

We could buy 4-5 Brentford players with that money. Unless we're planning to beat teams 7-5 every game we're taking a massive risk.

We should be able to buy the borough of Brentford, including the football club and all its players and assets for that sum of money !!

I doubt Cotteril will walk, he may give off an aggressive posture, it's his way, but he knows that his reputation is on the line here. Everyone knows he has a very good L1 record, however his Championship record is very scracthy and something he is no doubt eager to put right, hence the frustration, walking away now is career suicide, plus i don't see him as the quitting type. He will be here for a while yet, and I am glad, if anyone can sort it out it's SC.

Maybe not...even crappy areas of London are a tad expensive.....Brentford's almost Fulham as well.

I have a feeling that this deal may get flushed down the same toilet as the Gayle situation based on possible excessive wage demands from a young player who thinks he can hold potential future employers to ransom. Do these people see the fear and desperation in the eyes of football clubs trying to adapt to higher level football and decide to turn the screws? I suppose I need to resign myself that if it's happening all over the world then why not down in Bristol? Bah humbug.

I've that same sinking feeling. I just hope I'm wrong.

It's all about the players and their agents and of course lots and lots of money for both, plus the selling club.

The very fact that we are talking about little 'ol Bristol City offering somewhere between £7m and £9m (depending on who you believe) for a player from the same league is really scary.

Nothing like. Maybe £2m tops. He's unproven at this level.

Got a feeling we are in for a Sam Baldock announcement when he gets presented to us at half time.

Just a sneaky feeling, so don't shoot me if I'm wrong.

And Red Robin don't write **** threads again tonight otherwise you will be waking up with Banksy

Gray won't be on half as much as Gayle. Brentford, a newly promoted league 1 team at the time signed Gray from Luton for 500k. Luton the year before were in the conference. So we know this guy would have been on peanuts and wouldn't have needed much convincing to join Brentford. At the time of signing gray, I would expect Brentford weren't expecting him to score 20 goals, so really wouldn't surprise me if he was on about 3k-5k. Gayle apparently was on/wanted 40k a week..... So I don't think wages will be a problem here, getting him to join us ahead of west ham, hull & qpr will be the tricky part.

The longer this goes on the less likely it is to bear fruit tbh.
As I said in the Gayle thread, I doubt if this will be the last. There will be more of these non-starters.

Testimanu was a midfielder (and played as a 3rd striker) as far as I remember.. and the point was we strengthened in defence at considerable cost, they didn't work out for us, but I bet all the fickles on here were jumping for joy when we signed them!
