Not really. Henry Tudor was descended from John of Gaunt but never fought for the House of Lancaster. Almost the first thing he did after defeating Richard III at Bosworth was to marry Elizabeth of York, the daughter of Edward IV, to try and reunite the kingdom. He established the Tudor dynasty which lasted until Elizabeth I died.

The difference between being effortlessly cool, and trying too hard to be cool. It happens a *lot* in music too.

My kids have a very healthy interest in history and often put me to shame with their knowledge. I do know who Shakespeare is and that Churchill fella who does the insurance ads :)

Yes, I've been meaning to take up an invite to Italy for about 3 years. The intention is to ride there, and perhaps take in the Missano {San Marino] MotoGP. The race track is about 30 miles up the road from where I would stay. Then I'd get down to Roccasecca and Cassino to see what's left of the rellies. The Viffer would chug the distance no bother.

I'll watch the rest of Part 1 then get onto 2. Cheers.

Think I've finally reached the point where I will only use Facebook for the purposes of the 'chat' function. The place is just horrific.

It seems to me, that it is increasingly filled with uninformed people mindlessly sharing misleading and hate-inciting statuses/videos/photos based on lies.
Or maybe it's just my timeline. Not to tar all with the same brush but it always seems to be the older generation sharing these things too?! (from my experience)

It's all just utter trash. Just seen the Salou riot video being portrayed as Africans storming the beaches of Spain in a bid to take Spanish homes! (which it isn't - it's actually a protest about the Guardia Civil killing a Senegalese man trying to escape a Spaniard who was attempting to traffick him)

And if it isn't that, it's just self-indulgent nonsense or people bitching about their ex's and so forth.

    Okay, rant over.

Not quite coincidentally, I formally shook the dust of Facebook off my feet about three weeks ago. Many reasons, some of which overlapped with yours but also somewhat affected by some research mentioned in the Economist where it was found that people were significantly unhappier after ten minutes on Facebook. I'd ignored the research for a few months but had a moment of clarity. One of my goals in life is to do everything I can to maximise my happiness so it seemed foolish to continue.

Interestingly, my wife was on there last night and someone had forwarded yet another false story (about the Police running a vehicle without an MOT - a well-known internet "fact"). There and then she made a decision to cut her use.

Since I stopped using F/b, I've made a conscious effort to pop round to friends' houses and see them face to face instead. It's so much more fun. (Though they may not agree, of course)

    Vin

The rear upper deck on a ship that forms the roof of a cabin. It has French roots from word from la poupe meaning stern.
