A good player, but £8 Million is a lot of cash for one good season. I am sure he will do well for us, but that is a very hefty price tag!! Exclusive - Bristol City to hold talks with Andre Gray after agreeing deal with Brentford for striker By talkSPORT (@talkSPORT) | Tuesday, August 18, 2015 image: http://utv.vo.llnwd.net/o16/talkSPORT/ben/chris/talksport/site/share2.png please log in to view this image image: http://talksport.com/sites/default/...eld/image/201508/andregreat.jpg?itok=lvO42llj please log in to view this image Brentford for striker Andre Gray. The newly-promoted Robins are searching for a proven goalscorer to aid their ambitious bid to become Championship promotion contenders. Steve Cotterill had made Dwight Gayle his top target but the Crystal Palace hitman rejected the chance to move to Ashton Gate.
Lets not get too excited until he has signed after the 'will he wont he' with Gayle. But fingers crossed too, although WHU are reportedly also interested ...?
Thought he didn't celebrate the 2nd goal too much at the time and then found out it was an og- Wondered if there was anything in it then. To be honest, didn't think he did a lot but when he did get a chance, he was deadly- Just what we need
He's diferent to the other strikers we have (in GJ speak a different club to have in the golf bag) He took his goal well - it may be alot of money, but could have an even bigger sell-on value?
Brentford must be rubbing their hands, he cost them £500k last summer, and now worth £8 Million!! It's crazy money, we have all the risk if he flops. I think he will be awesome at City, the type of striker we need, bu cannot help but feel £8 Mill blows not only this seasons transfer kitty, but maybe next seasons as well. One hell of a gamble from the 2 Steve's.
Not really, not unless we get promoted, the £8 Mill fee has written out any real sell on value for us. We will only recoup that money if he fires us to the Prem League.
I like him, but he's not worth £8m. Not a chance. For that kind of money there are much better prospects out there. This is a panic buy.
Against Brentford we were great going forward. Yes we need someone who can score. But ffs, our defence is so fragile, wish we'd spend money in that direction.
Sounds v. steep if true - granted, if he continues his development and goes on to be a Premiership quality player (be it with us or someone else) and maybe even gets called up to England then it'd be money well spent, but much less than that level and we would have over-paid. You only have to look at some of the transfers that have occurred over the past couple of years to see that this is the way the Championship is going (Ross McCormack moving for £11m anyone?), however you can help but think that there is still value out there if you go looking for it and show a suitable amount of aggression at the right times - what I mean by that is, could we have captured other targets sooner if a proportion of the money going towards this deal had been put on top of whatever our bids were at the time? It's difficult for us fans to judge, going on newspaper gossip, but by the same measure, the transfer window hasn't exactly gone swimmingly...
It's worth remembering that all these transfers have come from solid Championship clubs competing near the top end of the table. If we sign Gray and go down this year we won't get more than £2m for him come summer.
£6m for Gayle, and now £9m for Gray. It may be a huge waste of money, but it's definitely a signal of intent to the rest of the league. If we can stay up and earn a tidy sum from the new stadium it might bode well for next season.
A lot of money, but the guy knows where the net is,he did not over celebrate Saturday either. Reckon he will score a lot of goals for us,quality costs money in this league. we need another four players though, i reckon then we will compete for the whole season. To me the club have made a major disaster not bringing in players early doors. it is nice having a fancy stadium, but we need players here to bring the crowds in week in,week out at the top of the division.
