Sounds like a plea to the Allams to me... Hull City manager Steve Bruce has warned that he could be left 'chronically short' of players if the club misses out on transfer targets and loses more players. Despite bringing in several signings in late summer, Bruce remains wary of losing key players including strikers Nikica Jelavic and Abel Hernandez, before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, September 1. City have already lost Robbie Brady, James Chester, Stephen Quinn and Dame N'Doye to the transfer market and although Bruce is in the market to strengthen his attacking line, he faces competition for his targets. Andre Gray of Brentford, who, along with Tom Huddlestone, is said to be attracting interest from West Ham, has been the long-standing target, along with Shaun Maloney of Chicago Fire. Both deals have stalled in the past seven days and Bruce is prepared to look elsewhere unless progress can be made this week. Bruce maintains City's chances of promotion will only become clear once the window closes. "It is not going to be easy to go back up, it never is," said Bruce. "But I realised after three years of me being there, it was time for me to go or time to turn around the squad and start again. That is what we are hoping to do. "If two or three come on deadline day, that leaves me chronically short. I can't really do anything." But despite the underlying concern, Bruce remains positive at the start City have made to their season. He said: "With all the doom and gloom, we are unbeaten from the start of pre-season. "Slowly but surely, we are starting to lift the gloom. Certainly, what I saw in the last half hour against Wolves showed we have an outstanding chance. We will give as good as we get."
It must be a worry, if they get teams panicking on the last day of the window, and put in offers at the release figure, we could see a few go without having a chance to replace.
Well if Bruce and the Allams are serious about keeping some of the players that have these clauses, all they have to do is renegotiate their contracts. No use crying about it in a newspaper when you truly don't really give a rats arse if they stay or go
If you renegotiate before the end of the window you would have a signed contract which would supersede it.
The window shuts in less than two weeks, you seriously think we could start calling in agents and renegotiating contracts now?
There really is a doomsday scenario here where we **** up our targets completely, which we look like doing, lose 3 or 4 players on deadline day, which speculation suggests is perfectly possible, bring in a couple of stiffs in a panic, who turn out to be useless, permanently injured or both, which we did last season. Add to this picking up a couple of long term injuries to the players that stay early doors. Then our manager walks. Suddenly we find ourselves in mid-September ****ed beyond redemption. I'm an optimist so I'm not expecting this scenario, but I hope someone in the club's management structure, whose paid to consider such possibilities, is formulating a prevention plan, as I type.
I know bruce got a lot of stick from some quarters for "reminding" others that some players have clauses and are likely to go, but i think its a very clever ploy. Tag this comment with the "some players dont want to be in the champoonship" comment he made to burnsy and you pretty muchhave "come and get these players so we can move on". Would not suprise me if the players looking to move on and agents are called on tp give a sit rep pn there moves. i think this will lead yo a midfieldet and striker neen in by the weekend
The players may not have been sold immediately but Brady and Chester left without the messing about that has gone on with Gray and several other players.
I think we can see why he's keeping Palacios around without signing him - he's an insurance policy. If we look a bit thin (and he doesn't look a bit fat) once the deadline has passed, we can sign him up. Makes sense from the club's point of view - but if we don't end up signing him it will have been a bit unfair on him, leading him on for several weeks.
I'd imagine he's usig up good resources getting into shape and into the run of things. He's obviously not got any concrete offers from anywhere else where he'd want to be else he'd be there. I suspect he's probably grateful for us throwing him a lifeline and a chance to continue his career at a decent level.
I think Bruce will sign Palacios, simply because he thinks if he doesn't, he could end up with no-one.
Brentford are trying to hold on to Gray by offering him an improved deal, they don't have to complete that deal before the window closes.
