Something to lighten the mood a tad and prompted by Loftus Toads slightly exaggerated post about Saturday being the worst game he had ever seen at Loftus Road...... Now personally I didn't think Saturday was that bad and I'm sure there have been far worse performances than that, so dig into the darkest recesses and relive the games that stand out for there awfulness, we could well be looking into the hundreds...... For me one of the most depressing was in Dec 09, R's 0 Middlesborough 5. The reason this stands out is I was lying in hospital recovering from hip surgery when the score came through on Final Score, the recovery wasn't helped..... Okay next.....
we played out a 0-0 draw with reading at home in 2005...it's always stuck in my mind as literally nothing happened at all for 90 minutes, the most boring game I've ever watched and god knows I've seen a few at LR
Remember a game at LR in early 70's v Blackpool. The pitch was literally a mud bath. No idea what the score was.
Recall a game also early 70's, against Charlton, pi55ed with rain the whole game and were soundly beaten 4-1.....
Lost 4 zip to Cardiff on a friday night followed by losing to Vauxhall Motors following week (which I didnt see!!!!). We were awful and so were the sheep shagger fans. Think Earnshaw got a hat trick.............
I don't have a "favourite" one, but I offer the following from memory for consideration. - Nearly all end of season matches when we were in mid table. - At home to Bolton soon after losing in the FA Cup 6th round in '70 - West Brom on Boxing Day '68 - Palace & Wesrt Ham home games last season were a lot worse than Saturday. - The Middlesbrough match nominated above. - Ipswich in the last match of the '78-'79 season. Made even worse by standing at the School End with my wife & approx ten other Ipswich fans. Worse still was the pity they showed me when it was announced that Docherty has just been appointed as manager! - The Reading 0-0 mentioned above was as bad as the day both clubs were relegated from The Premier I'm sure many more will come to mind!
the state of pitches back then were awful, but the games still went ahead. Bucket loads of sand was the trick.
Travelling over from Ireland i have managed the Friday night 4 0 v Cardiff (Earnshaw did get 3), the 5 0 v Boro, the 5 0 v Swans and the 3 1 v the saints and will be back this Saturday v Rotherham
Good shout Kingdom about the Saints game....Hughes last stand, that was bloody awful. See you Saturday....
I thought our home loss to Newcastle under Redknapp 2 years ago was the most spineless performance I have ever witnessed on a football pitch. And I have witnessed (and been on the receiving end of) many thrashings.
Opening game season after we were 2nd in the League, and got beat 0-4 by Everton in the sun. Stood in the Loft and watched us open our doors wide in the distance. I think Lineker got a hat-trick. We came right back to Earth that day.
Season after we were relegated in 79, in August at home to Leicester, went with high expectation that we could challenge for promotion and we were thrashed 4-1, so soon after that great team of the mid 70s it was a horrible feeling that we were a million miles from that quality. All credit to Leicester, they went on to win the Div 2 title that season...
that was a real bummer. I had just assumed we would just roll on like the year before. At least we had the European games to look forward to.
And then didn't Everton tonk us 5-1 at home the season after that, think it was the season we were relegated and that great side was but a distant memory.....
