Don’t know if anyone saw this over the weekend - a ‘white man march’ in Liverpool organised by the NA [National Action] – a neo-nazi nationalist protest group – cancelled after groups of anti-fascists campaigners with banners reading ‘Not in our city’ gathered in opposition surrounding the NA and pelting them with eggs and bananas, forcing them to retreat and cancel their proposed march. It’s been said [by groups like Liberty] that bans on racist marches breaks the free speech law but surely inciting hatred is a step too far to free speech. I was delighted that the anti fascists turned out to spoil the march but in a democracy should the NA have the right to march?
Good for them to stand up but throwing stuff is going too far and the cops should have stopped them,, My view is those who turned up were on the side of the angels but went too far... luckily nobody even fax news would take the side of neo nazis getting egged.
I hate neo Nazis and racists but I do believe in free speech. Turning up to protest the na was good. Pelting them was not. We all will have opinions contrary to many at times. Denying others speaking when we think they are wrong grants the rights to others to prevent us speaking when others think we are wrong. Democracy and free speech means you have to let idiots and arseholes have their chance to speak.
oh and you let the neo nazis walk round then they feel its normalthen they start being more i've a right to do x and y and next thing you've got them abusing people in the streets slapping **** like that down at least keeps them in the sewer where they belog
Page went, he mentioned it yesterday http://www.not606.com/threads/the-carragher-arms.27428/page-2466#post-8251051
Good bloody phone. Wtf does it change good to food? Why? Bloody pessimist phone. Can nothing be good?
Page mentions NA had advertised wanting to cause mayhem and destruction. Maybe pelting them wasn't so bad after all. A little vigilante violence to prevent anything worse happening.
I think there's a lot more to the story than the egg pelting. The NA sent a letter to Joe Anderson saying if the march was banned ' your city will go up in flames'.
Its an almost childlike question but hey ho I thought it was fascists that stopped freedom of speech? Using violence and intimidation to silence political views can never be a good thing.
There's exceptions to that as far as I'm concerned. Anyone preaching hate or racial intolerance have no place in our society and therefore do not have a legitimate voice imo.
I usually look back to see if it changes my words. Some slip through. I'm ok with phone changing typos, I'm not ok with it "fixing" perfectly good correctly spelled words and changing them to different words... That's just annoying and pointless.
A lot of the time it changes perfectly good words to similar words that you use all the time, like you put in a thread something about 'good kits' and it changed it to 'kids' probably because you text the word kids a lot - certainly more than kits ........... maybe .
How about using fruit and dairy products to scare away a scumbag organisation openly threatening to cause chaos? This wasn't a group who were coming to Liverpool to openly discuss their political views, this was a bunch of moronic thugs looking for a fight
