Who's knocking the east riding? I genuinely find it sad reading your posts of late. You used to be someone I looked up to and respected because of the astute comments you made. More recently, you seem to be trying to invent posts just to argue against some point nobody is making.
I can't believe anyone from Hull or just outside can actually have a problem with those on the other side of the boundary. It's all greater Hull anyway.
Nice to read an article that 'gets' Hull. I've always been proud to be from Hull. Always will be. We were never crap. We are Hull.
The problem is there's certain elements in the East Riding that won't accept that Hull doesn't just stop at our artificially tight boundary. Hessle's as much Hull as Greatfield.
It's nice to read an article like that, someone who took the time to come here and see for themselves what we know to be how things actual are.
10 years ago I would tell my southern friends that Hull was a dump. Now I tell them it is up-and-coming. It's got a long way to go still but it really does feel to me when I visit that it is at the start of a new positive phase. I look forward to trying to bring as many folks as possible up to visit in 2017.
Of course the museums, the Wilberforce statue, etc were all around in 2003 when the 'Crap Town' book was published and Channel 4 program was aired. It was fashionable to knock Hull then just as now is it regarded 'en vogue' to praise the city. In reality not much has changed except people's perception.
That's like telling people your kids are stupid and your wife is ugly. Why would you tell people Hull is a dump. Under funded and overlooked yes but never a dump. You should be proud to come from Hull. Never apologise for it. Especially to southerners.
It just takes a visit to a few other places to see that Hull is far better than some of its perceptions from outsiders. I was talking to a family from Grimsby last night at the Folk Festival, and they were in awe of Hull. They loved it.
Yeah we don't do that here either. I'm not even sure he's really from Hull. Bet he doesn't even like chip spice.
I didn't say you were knocking the East Riding. I was referring those who do. There are posters on another forum who routinely refer to East Riding residents as despicable and suggest that they shouldn't be allowed to use facilities in Hull. No doubt they don't have objections to Hull folk using East Riding facilities. This is the sort of insular, small town attitude which bedevils Hull. One you don't see in other cities.
So you're singling out a few comments from some other place on the www, adding your slant on them and ignoring most of the other comments, just to 'win' an argument nobody else is having? Seriously?
That's a little ironic, considering half the posts on the other thread are sweeping generalisations about the opinions of the residents of East Yorkshire, based largely on nothing more than the posts of NorthFerribyTiger.
I merely reversed what you had posted, substituting East Riding for Hull. Which appears to have illustrated how silly the comments about how people in the East Riding benefitting from Hull's existence without acknowledging it is two way street were.
