What can be done to protect him and other players in our team by the opposition ? It appears that the orders were to stop Montero at any costs, today it was a red card by a ref who to be fair looked after all the players out there. Referees need to protect players from dirty tactics being waged against them, I'm not saying that they can't be tackled, just that winning the ball fairly and playing a clean game should be the norm not the unusual thing. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33948265
unfortunately this is a symptom of the PL, all we can hope for is a bit of help from the referees. It is a great compliment to Monty that they feel the need to give him a bit of special treatment. I am sure he will deal with it.
Ouch. For every time you see someone moaning about players getting lumps kicked out of them you see another complaining about diving. The point is that it's a fine line and both situations are usually brought about by mistimed tackles because of pace. Bale gets it all the time. I thought Monk was a little unfair today saying that Newcastle wanted to kick lumps out of our winger because that wasn't my take at all. Montero is a handful for anyone and Janmaat wasn't up to it. And he won't be the last. Remember, it was a pullback not a leg breaker that got him sent off and Montero didn't leave the pitch injured. I don't think he even needed attention during the game. Apart from Janmaat's first challenge on him I don't think Montero had any lumps kicked out of him at all. There's a difference between malice and the guy just being too quick for the defenders. Only my opinion but I think it's more of the latter than the former.
I hope monk keeps him on bench for Sunderland and Stoke games if the refs show no control again this season of the thugball they usually play against us when our boys leave them in our dust !
and if on bench who plays?? not Dyer or Routledge I hope. did I read somewhere that Barrow is on loan at Blackburn?
imo those are the first 2 that may bust his legs so as were doing ok by then id use routs or dyer to take the hits saving montero !
Yep, he took him out twice, the first going unpunished. He would probably have carried on all afternoon if the ref allowed him. I thought the ref did well and had no option to send him off for a foolish second offence.
Don't dis miss either players contribution , we may need Routledge sooner than you think ,with all the rave reviews Montero's getting I wouldn't be surprised on some Club coming in for him.
I have to disagree slightly, from minute one Janmaat decided the only way to deal with Monty was to kick him and should have been booked for the first challenge (I don't go with this view it was early and only the first challenge) after that he took every opportunity to try and kick him. Where I do agree with you is that after the disappearance of Janmaat there was no malice shown towards him. It was clear that they had told him to get up his arse as he had roasted Ivanovic last week. I thought the ref dealt with it superbly and come up with the correct decision. It is something thought that our Monty will have to get used to this season.
The moe Jeff is on the highlights, the greater awareness everyone (including refs) will have of his ability to put defenders in his pocket and thus earning his own protection. Before our premiership days our players took hammering as we were the odd team in the leagues
I find it surprising that there are anti-Routledge comments here. Dyer is not the player he was there is no doubt. My mate said he can't beat an egg . I do hope he turns it around because he's been great for us in the past. Routledge still has a contribution to make i think and you cannot rely on one player for each position.
Sorry guys but if you think that was kicking lumps out of a player then you didn't see Tommy Smith kick Ardiles. In fact Ardiles is still coming down with snow on
Thing is you can't go on what used to happen in the game, you go on what happens now, players are more athletes than lumps these days, they are not built like brick ****houses and they are fast like Olympic runners, a lot of them can probably give a 11 - 12 second 100 metres.
