I may have done but all I meant was a striker to play up front if Rooney is benched. It's not difficult to understand. But apparently I've committed some cardinal sin by using the term and all hell is now officially let loose.

Hernandez will always run and look for space, but what he lacks is the link up play and ability to hold the ball. I don't see him as a starter in a too team, a good back up though.

Pace. Equally as important to our team as the goals. Depay is pretty quick and Pedro is stupidly fast so hopefully, once both are settled, we should bne set.

As I said last night, Depay made quite a few good runs that if spotted, would have had him clean through 4 or 5 times (on top of his miss). Young then did a similar run when he came on but was missed completely. Pedro will do much the same on the other side. I wont be at all surprised if most of our goals come from the other attacking players and not the CF.

It's unrealistic to expect that of him. Fergie thought so too, that's why he brought in RVP and rightly so.

I had no problem with what you said. I just pointed out that CF in the true sense are rare now, especially at the top clubs. I said we need a goalscorer and you say striker. The only reason I didnt say striker is because of players like Lampard. High scoring midfielders. Unlike as it is we would sign a player like that, it still gives us the same end game. A goalscorer.

No hard feelings. Just take a breath then reply next time.

Simply to keep him fit and ready should Rooney not deliver. I wouldnt want or expect him to lead the line. hes not good enough. Hes more than capable of finding the net in the 15 or so minutes hes likely to get at any given time though.

Your comparisons were ridiculous. Using Barca and Real - teams with absolute world class talent up front to justify why we didnt need an alternative to Rooney quite frankly insults the intelligence.

No hard feelings UIR. Just use your brain then reply next time <whistle>

We too have some very good attacking players. On paper we have more than enough to cope and certainly comparable with our rivals in the league. Not sure what was ridiculous about comparing with Real and Barcelona either. Especially since the same happens at the two PL clubs I listed. The reliance on the classic CF has diminished so clubs have turned to using other options. Wide forwards being a big favourite and one I feel will suit us better.

and hey, at least our attack scored yesterday. Unlike some <whistle> :bandit:

Pace is only of use if players are allowed to make telling passes. I fear we are turning into the Arsenal of 5 years ago, we seem to want to walk the ball into the area before making a killing pass. Mata is more than capable of splitting defences but not from the right wing, Herrera is the same but not from the bench. We are only two games in but already I have seen so many runs made that have been ignored in favour of a safe sideways or backwards pass, I hope this changes as the team developes.

Poor Barca, that centre half who never made the grade at Liverpool because he wasn't as good as Sakho or Lovren had their amazing attack in his pocket

I dont buy into the whole "van Gaal says they cant take risks" stuff. I think hes happy for players to take risks but wants them to be sure. if they hesitate then keep it safe, recycle the possession and try again. Its not a bad thing unless its done too often, which with us, seems to be happening. Hopefully with time it will come as you say.

Pace allows us to get in behind and gives us the outlet for taking risks. At Bayern LvG played much the same way he does here with the possession, side ways passing and taking the safe option, but unlike us they had Robben who was rapid. Last season we certainly didnt have a player like Robben who kept defences wary and could expose them. This time weve signed Depay and look like getting Pedro. Neither are of Robbens quality but both have pace and can score. They are perfect for the sort of football we are playing. Herrera, who has to start every game, can add the pace in midfield.

Sky are now reporting (tomorrows papers) that Muller wants to join us from Bayern. He is a centre forward and scores goals

    Good old Bastian :emoticon-0100-smile

How many times did we get clean through on goal last season? It wasnt often and it showed our lack of pace, not just in attack but all over the team. Di Maria was our fastest attacking player and but for the first couple of games, he was poor far too often, losing his place and his head in the process. Elsewhere we had Valencia, Shaw, Herrera and Young. Two of those played about half a season and another was being played out of position. This season we have a quick, natural RB and a quick WF with an even faster one incoming. Hopefully Shaw and Herrera can play more games (not looking great for Herrera so far, though) too.

The reason it's a ridiculous comparison is what you yourself said about them being "a whole different ball game and do things no other club can or will"

As for Chelsea, well they have been playing with one CF for the last 10 yrs. During that time we've switchwd between playing with 1 and 2. So this notion that somehow the "game has moved on" is a pointless one. We have to do what's best for us like we've always done irrespective of anyone else. But all of this is a waste of breath as NOBODY has actually said we need to play with 2 up top. All anyone has said is that it is looking very likely we need someone to share the load with Rooney. Imo he must have competition for that position.

Btw last season Chelsea got away with Costa getting injured/suspended bcos City imploded. If Rooney gets injured or suspended or doesnt regain his form we will be fcked. You're asking for 75+ goals in the league alone. Without Rooney we dont have a Suarez, Neymar, Ronaldo, Messi, Bale to bang in 20-30 EACH. Simple as. And all that is without the Champions League or FA Cup. We need another striker/CF (whatever you want to call it) to play up front unless ppl honestly believe Rooney is untouchable.

We need a goalscorer. A good one. He can play in goal for all I car as long as he gets 20+ goals <ok>
