Top players do not want to come here as they can get more dosh else where. I am not sure that there is too much more to it other than pure greed.
'before the (joke of a) sending off' 'surely they must appeal that sending off?' If you leave your boot head high studs showing WTF do you expect. No intent but what's that got to do with the price of eggs.
Red card aside, 4 more goals conceded today, that's 9 in 3 games, very concerning for a side with such a good defensive record last season. Perhaps our money would be better spent on a centre half or 2???
It was a reckless challenge and tgere Had this been from a player from the opposing team then everyone on here would be saying how deserved the red card was. Freeman was stupid and should know better, he's hardly a 16 year old and he probably cost us the game. I hope he's fined for his stupidity, but doubt that he will be. He should be apologising to his team mates for the next few days for letting them, the Manager and the fans down. The mistakes and excuses have got to stop. All of the momentum from last year has already been lost in just 3 games. All of it.
Having had chance to see Freemans challenge it would appear a bit harsh, however, having also seen West Hams keeper challenge last night, which was also unintentional, Freemans looked worse to me. Maybe refs are clamping down more on this. They usually start the season off with some new thing to focus on.
No, not quite all of it But we now have a mini mountain to climb, and we will see what Cotts and SL are actually made of in the next few weeks. We are in a different league now, and its time we kicked complacency into touch because EVERYBODY is playing for their place Thats how it works !
'Sort it out Cotts' is a bit unfair on yesterday's showing. For 30 minutes we played some great attacking football and could easily have been leading 4-1. Freeman's ridiculous challenge changed the game and you can't blame Cotterill for that. Williams left footed own goal (should have gone with his right) on half time killed us. Brentford played our 10 very well and it was only a matter of time before they scored their 3rd. Their 4th was down to poor defending from Williams again allowing their guy to get a shot off. At half time the conversation was who could we bring on to fill in midfield. No one. And that's Cotterill's problem, we don't have any quality in depth. Who takes Freeman's place these next 3 games ? Our summer transfer dealings may well lead us into a downward spiral that will become increasingly difficult to recover. Overall, I was pleased how we played yesterday (other than Williams and Freeman), the rub of the green didn't go with us.
No argument from me, it was a red card all day long....thought we where playing superbly before the red card, not really sure what the final score would have been, 11 against 11, but believe we would have won.
Correct that everyone is playing for their place BUT we do not have enough bodies to make team selection competitive. While I agree that signing young players with a future is the best route for City, unless we get some two or three with more experience at this level, we are in for a real struggle. 27/30 year olds will cost bigger fees and demand higher wages, but what is the cost of that compared with the dreadful alternative. And we cannot wait until mid or end of September for a few token loans. We need them now otherwise any confidence left will have totally disappeared. Sorry but I really do fear the worst this season.
I was going to wait for ten games to be up to see how we get on, but three losses in a row is pretty telling. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and give them 7-8 games. I reckon our reaction after our first win will show where we go this season. On the subject of big spending, I could put in several bids on mansions and not actually buy anything. That doesn't make me a millionaire. You're spending when you've actually spent the money, and so far we've not spent anywhere near enough to compete at this level.
Red card all day long, I thought he was in trouble when I saw it live and it looks even worse now I've seen it on the TV. (He got away with a couple of challenges last season if I recall). On another day Wilbs might have gone off as well for his elbow (?) although that would have been more of a contentious decision in my eyes. Going forward we look good and look like we could score plenty, unfortunately it looks like we can also concede plenty as well, the game Saturday could have finished 6 all by all the chances that were created, Brentford were just more clinical in the finishing, So at present I believe its more important to concentrate on recruiting defensively, whether in defence or in midfield than splashing the cash on more attacking players.
Who takes Freeman's place these next 3 games ? And two of these games are against the bookies and most pundits tips to win the league!! For us to lose our most creative player for these games in particular will be a hugh headache to SC, and if we don't get something against Leeds, we face the very real prospect that we could well be 5 games down with no points on the board.
If it was me I would be tempted to bring El-Abd in and push Ayling into midfield and get Pack push forward more just to tighten up. But I reckon he will just bring Robinson in and play him behind Wilbs and Jonny.
'I would be tempted to bring El-Abd in and push Ayling into midfield' Ayling may well have the ability to play in midfield. He's good going forward as proved again against Brentford, laying on our 1st goal. But ElAbd AND Williams in a back 3 scares me witless. The scenario we find ourselves in proves how poor our summer dealings have been.
If we signed a left back then we could have Ayling at right back and play 442 or 433 giving us more options A championship proven CB would improve the defence A creative midfielder to work with freeman is needed A hold the ball up attacker is needed to replace Wilbraham in the long term And trying to replace fielding whilst neglecting getting in other positions is suicidal
Just had a belated look at the sending off on BCFC player and a definite red card in my books. To go in head high with your foot when you know there is an opposition player challenging for the ball as well is suicide. On the other side of the coin the necessary changes that haven't been made are already starting to have an affect on the supporters voices so another bad result tomorrow night might set off a negative based tidal wave that we don't need. Cast your mind back to the couple of years after we went to the playoffs when everyone was saying what types of players we needed to improve on an almost promotion, a scenario that was never really addressed on the pitch despite obvious weaknesses. It was our player weaknesses, along with poor managerial appointments and decisions, that took us back down to where we should never have been in the first place. There's no doubt we have the right manager in house and yet I see so many similarities to the days that led to our relegation, particularly our apparent oblivion to the real rebuild we needed to compete at the higher level. I find this surprising when you consider the words coming from our hierarchy about the desire to compete at the highest level in our almost completely renovated stadium. Bristol City have travelled this wibbly wobbly road before and if you are like me the words of future promise are starting to wear thin. Show us you care about us please and get the right tools to fix the muddle and stop the rhetoric about how difficult life is up here because you should have known the new rules before entering the competition. Not much time left in the transfer window to find what we need and the loan window has never excited me too much as I have never seen it as a permanent fix. What we need is positive action so come on.
The only good football is in the middle of the park, The final third is poor and your defence is poor and because of that you will struggle. The sending off was correct as once you show your studs then its an early bath all day long. Cotts needs to buy some quality before the window shuts or it will be a short stay in the championship.....I am an unbiased observer and not any sort of wum and i hope cotts can get some money to fix your obvious problem...
