He possibly lost the will to live after reading the posts from a former astute poster that seems to be morphing into Wardlorph and Staedtler's understudy.

I've no interest in the HCC v ERYCC point scoring, improving Hull (it's image and facilities) is the only thing that concerns me, what ERYCC do is irrelevant.

Could be or should be, there are plenty of places around Hull which for some strange reason fall outside of the Hull City boundary. I think it would be better if there was a greater Hull type of thing, but the residents of those villages / suburbs are not going to give up their village status to become part of Hull.

I think over time councils fall into the same trap and people that don't keep on top of repairs with their cars etc. Most engineers will tell you that the cheapest way in the long run is to service and not bodge repairs. Councils seem to wait until repairs are desperately needed, and then it cost more to put them right.

It isn't irrelevent though. For a start, we have non - contributers to Hull in the East Riding, seemingly intent on pulling Hull down or dictating how our rates should be spent, often for their benefit.

There are many schemes that would be improved with a regional approach and that could be mutually beneficial and/or could be joint funded.

Much of that is a consequence of how some funding is allocated. It's also a factor that politicians can only see to the next election.

Or watch their property values plummet & insurance costs soar.......

Why a greater Hull ?? Why not a greater Beverley (administrative centre of the East Riding) or Greater York (the true capital of Yorkshire) absorbing Hull ??

Swanland and Raywell at one time fell in the Hull boundary. I've only seen it on a couple of maps so it was possibly short lived.

I have no issue with a regional approach, but not one with the HCC clowns involved......a Northern powerhouse centred on the Yorkshire capital City would make sense or a greater East Riding with Beverley at it's centre & absorbing Hull

Lagely due to population demographics. These things tend to be split into zones and agglomeration. Beverley is just too wee.

Maybe if we built loads of houses in Ferriby, it could be the regional centre?

Gosh, another sweeping generalisation. A fair few ERYC councillors are not exactly setting the world on fire.

Maybe the super powers in the East Riding should pull their collective thumbs out of their arse and actually join the discussion pn regional working on behalf of their electorate.

As I said, it doesn't fit with how these things get split. It's why we've ended up with unitaries.

Why the East Riding ?? Why not work on a truly great Yorkshire.....covering most of the former Yorkshire Ridings.....I won't include West & South Yorkshire as it would mean alliances with Leeds & Sheffield ....... One greater York council could fit that bill....now there would be economies of scale & benefits to regional working

But unitaries don't truly work....North Yorks works well as a 2 tier authority & there is no reason why a greater York couldn't too.....most mets work in a similar way......you could still keep local stuff at local level with a revised Hull council but with an administrative centre performing the general tasks, centralising payroll, benefits, housing, revenues & social services in York & leaving the local councils to perform the mundane tasks

That's one option being considered in the discussions your council is failing you by not being involved in.

Much if it doesn't involve boundary change, there's a fair bit that's simply regional working. It already happens on a smaller scale for a fair number of schemes, but tends to go back to each authority to act individually under the agreed terms.

    Because it's a ****e idea.

The East Riding is a county in its own right and should absolutely remain one, it just needs to improve the reputation and attraction of it's main city, which is precisely what this thread was supposed to be about.

I think Hull recognise that. Could you convince your elected members so the region can move forward together? They're holding things back at present.

Every city spends money on things which visitors to the city make use of. This stuff about non-contributors benefit really is a load of nonsense. If they come into the city and spend money they are benefitting Hull.
Maybe no outsiders from anywhere outside of Hull should be allowed to come and visit during the City Of Culture year as they haven't contributed, especially foreign visitors who have paid no tax here.
You don't hear this sort on nonsense in other cities.
