You'll have none as the government suggested that self determination was an issue...they won't force the villages to join Hull if they do not want to......and they don't.... Cott could almost be described as a suburb of Beverley
Isn't this just more to do with if you prefer to live in an urban or rural area. Rural doesn't mean better quality of life, it's just different.
It's also if you prefer to have services provided by a council which understands running urban or rural services as they are very different.....ERYC are very good at providing rural services......HCC are mediocre/fair at providing urban services
For me, I like to visit rural areas and live in an urban area. There may come a time when roles will reverse.
We? That'll be you, and you've already responded to a couple of the examples I gave. You seem a tad befuddled and bitter, are you sure you aren't Allam.
I had some terrible experiences with ERYC and family and friends there still do. Hull cc have been far better to deal with from my experience. But I can't simply quote my own experience and offer it as a sweeping generalisation for everyone as you seem inclined to do. You sound like you've been fortunate with your salaries and pension. Maybe you should do as you expect Hull Council to do with our rates, and give some to a local business to help them make money, and no, I don't mean just buying things.
Envy my arse, you're the one making the claims, I'm simply responding. If it was envy, I'm hardly likely to have chosen to move out of the East Riding in favour of Hull am I? People in Hull are quite happy, we just won a survey somewhere because of it. I've nothing against the East Riding, It's the pseudo snobs that move across the road to avoid a Hull address that need to have a wee look at themselves, especially those that seem to think it somehow makes them superior, but ignore those that freely chose differently. Oh, and stop with the selective funding argument. There isn't one pot that's divided. It comes from many different sources, and an overall figure doesn't exist.
Local businesses do get money from me......I'm hardly going to donate it....my car was bought in Beverley, my motorbikes tend to come from York (both from family businesses not national chains).....I eat out at local restaurants in Ferriby, Beverley & York, I shop in Beverley or York.......I'm sorry but these days I find Hull a depressing place to visit......... I do not know where you keep getting the idea that Hull should give public money to private companies (although with the KC lease they virtually do for one company at least) As for dealings with ERYC I have never had a problem yet......have no wish to compare with HCC
ERYC don't directly, but as a substantial amount is received by its residents, like values for tax avoidance, they're all to be included in figures from central Govt that is gifted to the region. It's more a case of countering the limited claim you keep making by only mentioning one form of funding.
I said I didn't mean buying. You suggested Hull is in decline because of a lack of investment by the Council. Councils provide services not business. If the Council spend money to make it easier for commerce, it's money from ratepayers pockets going to private business.
Ferriby, just to clarify for me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall you've said you choose not to live in Hull, don't ever shop here and only visit for the football. So why the obsession with trying to drag Hull down?
The Council have an obligation to provide a city centre that attracts visitors, their track record in that regard is appalling.
A fair number of major schemes over the years were pushed by the Council, but vero'd by local commerce. Slagging the Council is easy if you miss some of the key facts. Presumably ERYC have a similar obligation to population centres in their region. They've done places like Withernsea proud haven't they.
I am not the only person living in the East Riding so the use of we in asking about the benefits of Hull's existence to us is quite in order. You still don't appear to have posted these supposed benefits. I am not as befuddled and bitter as you appear to be. There used to be a DMD who posted some witty and entertaining stuff on CI. I wondered what happened to him?
These petty squabbles and pissing contests are laughable. We should all be proud of the region. It seems some in the East Riding want to dictate what happens in Hull, but don't want to contribute even by association. It really is becoming clearer why Allam thinks like he does.
