Guys, check you emotions. This is OUR club. We love it. We're attached to it. We live & breathe it. Gayle is going to be a potential employee. He doesn't have any emotional ties to us - why would he? The decision involves dropping down a league and uprooting to a new city. It's simply not an easy choice. We are Bristol City - a proud club with very little recent success until last year and with all due respect, that was League 1. We would not be a destination of choice for many players......
Pardew says it's up to him (Gayle): http://www.skysports.com/football/n...-decide-on-bristol-city-move-alan-pardew-says I can't see him coming TBH - and I think we'll have this sort of problem tim and again. As Tampa says, we are not established enough for players to take a risk with us. Gayle wants to play Premiership football. If he comes to us that means a top 2 finish - or top 6 at the very least - in a very competative league. It's a big risk when he can make a move to team like Norwich and play Premiership football straight away.
really don't think Norwich are interested in him specially at 8 mill, anyway time to pull the plug on him he don't want to come? that's fine, time to move on
I wish we could spend £6 million on our defence as well. Williams and Ayling concern me as does Flint if he strays to far from a penalty box.
Well, it's now Friday, and there's no indication that Gayle is on his way. I reckon this deal is dead. Personally, I'd rather we spend that money elsewhere. Gayle is rock solid, and would do well in this division, but I reckon for £6-8m we could land two really good signings at this level that would probably want to come to us.
Somewhat of a damp squid with this possible transfer and it's time for us to walk away and never let him cross our doorstep again. I too am of the opinion that the money would be more wisely spent on the defence and midfield to shore up and protect our goalkeeper. Once the pressure has been lifted at the back then perhaps the midfield could offer more options to help the front line create scoring chances, but I still think we need to improve and have viable back-up for about 3 positions.
Much as I like the sound of having someone of his ability at the Gate, I hope Cotts sticks to his principles and closes the door on the deal this weekend. Then we can all move on.
BBC are saying that Fulham are preparing to offer Palarse £8m plus add ons for Gayle I don't think we've got any chance of him signing for us. We might get Matt Smith I suppose if he finds himself surplus to requirements, but it will seem like such a poor compromise if that happens.
I don't believe anything I read about this club or that club have made bids. The fact that Gayle did not say no straightaway is actually a compliment to our club - he's going to have to drop out of the Premier League (where EVERY player wants to play) to join us City will have a deadline for Gayle to make up his mind - once that passes they will act on other targets - spade work will have been done on these already so will not be starting from scratch. And today is about the people wearing the red shirt on the pitch - let's get behind the lads - COYR
our midfield is vulnerable playing 3 - 5 - 2 we need 4 strikers got them, in fact got 6 we need 8 midfield we got 4 but 6 with the Gila and Hunter need 2 more at least we need 8 defenders we have 7 plus Ives squad of 24? .. .. .. we have 22 we 've missed out on a number of young up and coming lower league midfielders Premiership football? not for 2 maybe 3 seasons
Fulham isn't premiership either. He'd be no better off at Craven Cottage than at Ashton Gate. I think at this rate he will be at Palace playing in their reserves.
if he did go to Fulham, might open the way for matt smith, who at least looked like he wanted to play for us,
Stay in London lad, obviously Bristol isn't good enough for you. Why do I sound so pissed off so early on a Sat morning @ 5:00 p.m. English time? Guess.
Surely that sort of money should be spent bringing 3x 2million pound signings if we are trying to build a squad with more depth and quality. On todays showing a 6 million pound striker is not the first priority.
Well done Cotts and now go and spend the monies allocated for Gayle to find good players that want to see, and participate in, the show. Red Hub has it right so you heard it here - 3 quality players X 2 million = 6 million better spent in strengthening the team for the fight ahead.
