Where has £50 million come from mate? Our net spend is fairly small and though we've got some dead wood on big money I doubt our wage bill is big enough for Ellis Short to have to pull out huge amounts to supplement it. No doubt we need to spend some money but if Ellis isn't going invest he needs to find another owner as the club will be far less valuable if we get relegated.
You said and I quote "lack of ambition". We went for Fer and Lombaerts, that's ambition to me, not lack of. Failing medicals doesn't turn us into unambitious all of a sudden M'Vila could go either way, you are right. It is still ambitious to bring a player of his quality in though.
It is not my intention to get into a slanging match, it isn't the first time you have shot me down with the doom monger type argument but I am not going (even if I knew how) trawl through posts. Fer and mvila are loans, lombaerts (I hadn't heard of) so to some extent lack of ambition is incorrect but they are not here (2 of them). I watch the likes of Stoke, WBA, villa, appearing to be getting stronger and at this stage, I think our progress is none existent. We had a poor pre season, awful first league game and as I stated previously, even if we do sign a 9,10, chances are they will not be match fit and not up and running until October. By which time that easier looking start may have been wasted??
That's just a figure mate, many other clubs spending similar to that amount and people getting frustrated at being left behind. I recall a few of you stating that your club has no debt, well you operate at a loss every year so Ellis Short is covering these losses. If he throws a huge amount of cash at your team, which has an underlying issue of players not grafting enough, then you could still go down and be in even more ****. He appears to be hedging his bets, so if you do go down the club can deal with it. In my not-very-qualified opinion, I think a relegation would be a blessing in disguise. Thing is people would blame Short for not investing, rather than the mentality of your players. Or I could just be looking at this all wrong, just my slant.
You are thinking of somebody else. We have never crossed paths before I'm not getting into a slanging match either. Our views on ambition and lack of are different and clearly none of us will budge. I recommend we leave it at that.
If I am in error safc83 I apologies, I was I suppose just ready for the argument, if mistaken identity I retract it and again sorry. Yeh opinions, a good debate is all I wish I am sick of being a frustrated Sunderland supporter lol. I want the club to match the passion of our loyal fans, sure we can agree on this, we deserve better.
Don't apologise mate, I probably shouldn't even be on this board with the way I am at the minute. There's a ban been put through for me, I'm just waiting for it to take effect. Sorry if I'm flying off the handle, I really am. I get frustrated as well mate and yeah definitely we deserve better. All I will say is even when I am negative about our club, I keep it to myself as I believe unleashing a negative atmosphere doesn't help the club at all and it does make it's way to the pitch, which is never going to be positive for the players or our results. I know it wasn't me having a pop at you for pessimism...... as I used to be one of the biggest pessimists on this board!
I have no doubt that Ellis Short has been covering our losses over the last few seasons though I'd like to think that the losses haven't been massive (in football club terms) over the last couple of years with our spending being quite small (I have no idea what the size of the loss was to be honest). I wouldn't blame the guy if he's had enough of putting his own cash into the club but if that's the case he needs to find a new owner or the clubs value will drop when we get relegated, surely a businessman like Short wouldn't want an asset to drop in value like we would if relegated. I see what you mean about relegation being a blessing in disguise but surely it's better to trust Dick to replace the problem players and deadwood with better players and push some ****e out and let the rest run down their contracts taking the hit on the wage bill for the year. bottom line is if we don't sign some quality then we're ****ed.
Come on man, we like a good moan lol. Don't know what a ban is for , but we should be allowed to express opinions, we disagreed half hour ago, but even though we haven't changed our views we now treat other with respect, more of this needs to happen on these boards because to often fall in to boring personal arguments.
In my not very qualified opinion mate your not very qualified opinion is bang on. Something is rotten at safc and has been for a LONG time , PDC (eek!) although clearly bonkers knew it, pointed it out and promptly got sacked. We have a losing mentality at the club. UTD won eh league with a **** team under fergie then the next year a embarrassment with moyes. Why fergie won, there was never a option not too. Mouriniho has the same mentality.
You have to spend to stay still. Spending money ought to be a prerequisite. I don't understand, if things aren't working, you just leave it to sort itself out, you do something to change it. They're billionaires playthings anyway, rubbish investments fottbal clubs.
We're past-masters of trying that tactic TJ. It's never worked for us in the past! I've never thought going 10 steps backwards is ever a good means of moving 1 step forward.
