You almost got your wish, w_y. Unfortunately, it's a trip to Preston instead. Some pretty long trips in the draw - Exeter have to go to Sunderland and Bournemouth to Hartlepool.

Hope you're checking for the Wednesday night.

Morning all from a damp and humid St. Helier. I wish we could have another storm like the one on Wednesday night as the humidity is giving me a headache.

Sæl öll. Tea and coffee, donuts and fruit are on the bar.

Half and half coffee for Brian

How headlines can be dangerous. I saw one fro West Bromwich to continue their unbeaten run, but they lost I thought. The reference was to matches against Watford going back many years, worse was that we do not play against them regularly so the statistics were even worse.

OFH, we are just back from France and was surprised how cheap diesel is there at the moment. The lowest price I paid was 1.10 Euros per litre which equates to 78.5p for UK visitors or expats with income from the UK, at present exchange rates.

However the price of food has risen significantly, probably now on par with the UK.

Not as great as it was when I lived there back in early 2000's. I'm sure it reached 1.75 euros to the pound. A new forecast by Goldman Sachs predict 1.54 euros to the pound by 2017.

The price of gas (petrol to most of us ) has gone down to $2.09 per gallon with the $ worth about 66p so that 1.40 or 35p per liter

Diesel is cheap, but it depends on where you live as to how cheap. I live in the Vienne and they do not impose the tax of 3 cents that some departments do. Unleaded petrol however seems expensive by comparison, although still cheaper than the UK.
Food prices are higher than three years ago, in some measure because of the increase in taxes on most things. It is a bit of a vicious circle at work here. As an example the price of meat was increased and the consumption decreased by 10%. Some of the supermarkets such as Aldi or Lidl import cheaper meat, leaving the farmers in France obtaining lower prices. The government wants the supermarkets to pay the farmers more by increasing the prices further. The supermarkets know that they can, but sales will drop still further as the customers are already being squeezed.

When we bought our house it was around 1.60 to the pound (2002) ...... and it steadily fell until this recent reverse.... at one point we virtually treated it as 1:1

Morning all, overcast presently, but sun expected shortly. Our annual fete started yesterday with a 56 km walk in the morning, count me out of that thank you, the cycle race yesterday evening in pouring rain and strong winds, which meant a soaking for the grand daughters here to watch and collect the sweets that are thrown from passing cars and finally a disco going on into the early hours. Today it is the big day with events throughout. There will be the huge open air show in the evening, followed by fireworks that people come from miles around to see. Will I do my bit on the chips stall this year? I might help out, but last year having filled a thousand barquettes I didn't wish to see another chip for weeks.

BTW is Dave still sleeping this morning??? He might be, I think not though. he said he was off to Sunderland for the weekend.
