Just noticed the referee for this game is the referee that gave possibly the worst refereeing performance in my time watching City - away at Chester at the Deva Stadium in the late 23/8/98. Only recognised him due to his hand. Brown and Hateley scored for a 2-2 draw - it pissed it down for the entire 90 minutes.

I only saw extra time, but there was some shocking football on display, Wood's penalty was the only entertaining part.
To think we got 3m for Chris Wood Made me laugh all the talking about his "aerial prowess" on SKY. I don't think he won a single header in the 2 and a bit years he was with us. Apart from the infamous one against Watford of course...
I went to that - late penalty by Hateley I think? On a Sunday as well for some reason. Although, Chester is one of those places were everyday is like Sunday (TM)
Went a few times – don’t think I’ve ever seen us win there. On a couple of occasions, I recall getting a train to Chester and then having to get a taxi back to the train station due to inadequate transport links? (Might have been ‘cos I was late or summat though – can’t quite remember). I’ve been to grounds in much worse physical shape than the Deva, but all things considered, it’s the worst ground I’ve ever been to.
I remember a trip to Chester, we went 3-0 down after about 10 minutes. It remained 3-0 but we confident we would win 4-3!!! 'Ground built by Lego' was one of the chants back then too.
I didn't think the ground was that bad! But then I went to Blackpool in the mid nineties and the terrace for away fans was just like loose rubble I think it was the game Fettis came on as a striker and scored.
I always thought he'd turn into a good player - big, strong and fast, I remember him giving our centre backs a torrid time for two different teams .............. must have been the **** coaching he got at Leicester?
Awful season that. Chester were totally rock bottom at the time as well. I remember going to Wigan (another team who went down that year) on the day of the National that never was. It utterly pissed it down to the extent we were allowed back on the coach at half time. Naturally, we were swept aside 2-0 by another dogshit team too. I stupidly went the season after that too – 2-0 loss in the FA CUP – they scored an absolute scorcher. Might have been the round after the wall fell down at Runcorn? GLP: It was (probably still is) the most soulless football ground I’ve ever have ever been to. I remember one fanzine likening it to an abattoir, although as hideous an abattoir would be, at least it’d have some sort of soul.
He also reffed us last week v Huddersfield ! I was also at that Chester game in 1998. God, we were ****.
Seeing as I wrote it was in 1975 I would have thought that was obvious. Being at the game in question I am well, aware where it was.
