FA Cup - Yes League Cup - No When we lost to Wigan in the FA Cup semi-final, we received £1M in prize money + the TV share. The Winners of the League Cup only get £100K and TV money is fook all as no **** watches it!!
Looks like we may be getting the West Ham reject as talks are on-going. If he does come it could be a great signing but also a big gamble
I can guarantee you Josh, if we got to a final there would be a stampede for tickets and those people who were criticising the cup would be the very ones moaning that they couldn't get a ticket. Just like for the play off final in Cardiff. All I'm saying is play a good side, it is only the 2nd game into the season, if we were drawn against a Premier club I'm sure Rosler would put a strong side out.
Because Eire, it's called Pride and the club should respect the supporters who pay their money and travel who also contribute to the atmosphere. I personally don't care what the Premiershite clubs do. I don't watch the product. I (and maybe it's just me) could never not care if we won or not. But each to their own....
Thats cos you and me are of an older vintage Shaks. The league cup used to mean something back in the day. Sadly it doesnt any more and FA cup is heading the same way. We all know the reasons why and one of the main ones being the time scum were allowed drop out of the FA cup to play the world cup ****e. Up until that, clubs werent even allowed field weakened teams but now its the norm. If we beat for example an Everton reserve team in League cup, what does it really prove? Sorry Shaks, but well have to disagree on this one
It's not about agreeing or disagreeing with each other. My young lads all think every match is important, so it's nothing to do with us being from a different generation. I except things have changed, but it doesn't mean I'm wrong to be as passionate about playing Donny in the cup or playing Valencia in a European cup semi final.
Every match is important, no doubt about that. I still want us to win every game we play. But at the same time we should prioritise imo. I would prefer promotion over winning the cup. Whether it used to mean something or not is irrelevant really as it doesn't now. And even then we are very unlikely to get far in the comp. League is more important, simple as that for me. BUT, even with a weakened side out I still expect us to try and win that game.
I seem to remember we did ok in 1972. From your armchair on your black and white tele we would have been the ones in white. Me, I was there with my old man. Grhs.
UR on his squad "At Wigan I had 8/9 players who weren’t getting on the bus. That was hard. It's tighter here. Makes for a better atmosphere"
eVENING Mike, Blackburn are apparently in dire straights money wise. I reckon them and the dog botherers to go down with one other..
Dog botherers? Where did you get that from. I know who they are, just never thought you would use it.
Afternoon all. No sure I understand why we should put out an under strength team for the cup tomorrow. Winning helps with confidence across the club. Progression helps the coffers for the day we play big clubs. And given that premiership clubs will often put in their 2nd string it gives us a chance of winning a cup... & a chance to play in Europe. What's not to like? On Byram, where is it officially stated that Cellino has offered him an extension on reduced wages? Surely Rosler would be telling Cellino to offer him a decent contract to keep him at the club.
It was reported weeks ago. But it was last Christmas so rosler wasn't involved. Redfearn might have been.
Evening one and all. I'm also of the opinion that we shouldn't weaken the side too much, they can't be that tired, we've only played one game for ****s sake and aren't managers and players always banging on about needing 4-5 games to get "match fitness". Also seems another opportunity to get the majority of the first team used to playing the formation Rosler wants to use. On Byram, whilst I agree Cellino must be barking mad to offer the same deal as to Murphy, one is courted by premiership clubs, one isn't (maybe not even by championship clubs and is playing at the biggest club he's ever likely to), we need to be grown up about this. Byram will be moving on, quicker if we don't go up, so any contract is simply to give us bargaining power in transfer talks. My view is, if we rate him highly give him a decent pay rise making him the best player at the club, set a decent release clause figure into the contract if a perm team come in for him or a decent sell on clause
Obviously I meant a prem team, if a team that only allowed perms came in he'd probably stay, it's not 80's Liverpool after all
