No, I'm 99% certain he actually said, post match, "I just tried to put the best ball in I could and luckily Gini was there" or words to that effect. Doesn't matter, I would imagine 99.99999% of footballers can't put the ball precisely where they want every time.

Exactly, Putting a pinpoint ball in at full sprint as Obertan did is never going to happen. All you can hope for is a good ball in that you hope someone is going to get their head on. The only time you're going to have a chance of a pinpoint ball is when you give the player a load of time to stop get his head up and play it in. Much like we did to Tadic to allow the ball in for Southampton's equaliser.

I'm going to give Obertan a compliment, probably one of the only times I ever will but I thought that cross was superb. Reminded me of a Gillespie type cross. Fair play to the Alien chrome headed mong.

In that situation, when the winger is at full speed, the only responsibility the winger has is to put the ball in the right area. Obertan did that brilliantly on Saturday. It's then up to the rest of the team to get into the box and be in the right place to get on the end of it, which Wiji also did brilliantly. We've not had great crossing for a long time, but I do think that at times over recent seasons our wingers/full-backs have looked even worse than they really are simply because others haven't shown any interest in making the sort of runs that Wiji made on Saturday.

    Agree.

A cross in those circumstances is not going to be pin point perfection. He did what he had to do in getting it in the right area for someone to run onto. He did look up and then put in the cross. Presumably he was looking up to get a general idea as to front post, middle or back and then did exactly the right thing.

    Credit where credit is due.

Look i know you don't like him but he had a good game so he keeps his place. He also had a two games before being injured last season.

If you don't understand that you really must be a fish.

What would it do to the dressing room and what message does is send?? Play well then get dropped. I mean its basic management you morons.

Obertan did alright, should probably start but remain on the edge. If he has a weak half, that's him done, that's how he should be approaching things - there are much better players behind him in Aarons and Cabella for the left side, but competition is a very healthy thing in a top flight squad.

Dropping him's a bit daft though. The eleven that started were beating Southampton. The only one who really should be dropped is Haidara, if Dummett is fit - weak link.

Except for Haidara. Haidara isn't even a footballer. He is certainly not a defender. Bottom line is this shouldn't be a discussion because we should have ****ing signed one by now. I can't believe I'm pining for the defensive skills of Santon!

I'd start Aarons personally. However I agree on Obertan, credit where its due, the lad did well. You shouldn't just slaughter him regardless. Do I think he is what we need to progress? No. When he has a good game however he is entitled to praise.

Agreed - please not Dummett at left-back. His distribution is awful. Can stomach him at centre-back but not left back. Can't we just not bother with a left-back and play both Obertan and Aarons in left-midfield. Work on the principal that attack is the best form of defence or something like that until we get a decent one to slot in there.

<laugh> Solution - play no left back. I like it. Perhaps this is why McClaren experimented with Aarons at left back - he knew both ours poor.

Have to say though when watching defenders, I prefer they can defend first. Dummett is a far far better defender than Haidara. Therefore he would get my vote. Play Anita or Colback there? Drop Sissoko into the centre or Gini and play Aarons wide?

No haidara is better for starters hes black which means he has that special gene. Hes also faster and stronger he isnt ideal should have stopped rhe crosses on sunday but he completed more passes than any of our players in that match. Dumnet was just pardspew and carvescroats battyboy and should never gave played... Ever
