Brendan Rodgers: The Last Four Years Have Been the Most Traumatic of My Life

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has given an emotional interview about his time as the Reds’ boss.
Rodgers is entering his fourth season in the Anfield hotseat, with many pundits and fans insisting he must win a trophy and/or qualify for the Champions League in 2016.
And in eye-opening exerts, the former Swansea coach gives us a glimpse of what its like balancing the high-pressure strains of being a Premier League boss, as well as having a healthy family life.
In Michael Calvin’s new book, Living on the Volcano, he says:
I’ve been through probably the most traumatic four years of my life,” he said.
I lost my mum. I lost my dad. I split up from the woman I loved for 23 years. I had a court case, two Old Bailey trials over six weeks with my son who was charged with sexual assault, which was an absolute disgrace.
Yet professionally, here and at Swansea, these have been the best four years of my life. Something has to come from within. You have to put the professional and personal to each side. It’s about being happy of course, but the owners have paid me to do a job, so I will do the job.
There’s a story about Jimmy Sirrel at Notts County which has stuck with me since I was a young coach. His wife, Cathy, died late on the Friday night, but he came in on the Saturday.
Nothing was said. He got on with his job, he did his job. Team played the game, won the game. Normally after every game, him and his wife would sit at a little table and have a glass. Then they’d go.
This Saturday night he quickly popped into the bar. Someone asked about his wife, and he said, ‘She died last night’. He’d lost the woman of his life, his right hand, but he still came in and did his job. Makes you think, doesn’t it?
Rodgers and his charges got off to a winning start, beating Stoke 1-0 at The Britannia in a win that will ease the pressure on his shoulders but his comments make you realise just how trivial football – and the criticism that comes with it – is at times.

Makes me think that's like one of those jokes from The Wheeltapper's And Shunter's Social Club in the 70's, when you're waiting for a punchline that never comes. Otherwise, the other thought is "What a ****ing sad jerk".

  3. It's some people's way of dealing with things. Just because you can't relate to his actions doesn't mean he was wrong.

I played Sunday league football a couple of hours after finding out my nan (who I was very close to) had passed away. I didn't want to be sat around moping and she wouldn't have wanted me to either. Doesn't mean I was upset / gutted, I was!

Your nan and the woman you've been married to for decades, your 'right hand', are different, I'd suggest. But fair enough, each to their own.

If he was still Swansea manager he'd probably still be with the woman he loved for 23 years.

Losing his parents was very sad and no doubt took its toll on him.

I lost my mum and dad within three years to cancer. I never turned to one of those thai ladyboys that look like Nicole Scherwinger.

    Worse luck. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Is this really a book that is authorised by Rodgers or just some crap by a hack?
It would seem strange to release this now!

Got to admit, ever since that train wreck that was 'Being Liverpool' I cringe every time this guy prattles on about football, let alone life itself. He seems to think, at times, he's the heir of Shankly, whereas the mantle of Brently sits more aptly.

Just ****ing shut up and get on with the job, Brendan.

May be he'd be happier if he focused on his job and his football instead of trannies, mistresses, and writing about them in a book <ok>

He really doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut :D Of course it's tough losing parents and his lads trial sounded like a total sham so fair enough....but bleating on about losing the woman he loved....jesus wept <doh>

Sometime we have to show our enemy or people we dislike some compassion. Possibly Brendan Rodgers have to tell us every thing.
We are not physics, so we cannot read between the lines. Brendan Rodgers get on with your job we love you if that's what
    you want to hear.:emoticon-0148-yes:

Why can't he just concentrate on the job he is being paid handsomely for?

This is a classical example of an idiot shooting himself in the foot. Does he not have enough work to occupy his time? Does he need to write to tell all? does he need the money? does he crave more celebrity?

He is providing more ammunition to his detractors to pillory him when things don't go well. If and when he has achieved something, then I can understand some need to tell all.

Shut the **** up Rodgers. Just do your job. Otherwise more of your coaches will get sacked.

I don't like BR, I think he's an arrogant twat. I feel literally zero connection with him or loyalty, and I haven't felt like that about a Liverpool manager before apart from Roy. I hope he brings us years of success, for which I would be grateful for, but unless he shuts his arrogant trap and shows some humility, I will find it hard to like him + he needs to cut out acting like a chav who's won the lottery.

Kind of like Chelsea fans must dislike Mourinho as a person, but welcome the fact that he's their manager.

Not a lot of sympathy on this board lol.

Feels like another puff piece to try and get fans on his side again - fanbase is clearly divided.
