The Newport County Football and Supporters Trust Boards held a joint meeting last night to discuss the future of the Club.

It was a productive meeting with both parties recognising the importance of the well-being of the Club.

As a result of the discussion the current board has agreed to step down and handover the control of the Club to members of the Trust Board.

Having previously undertaken the Football League's Owners' & Directors' Test as an associate director, Tony Pring has been appointed Interim Chairman. He will be supported on the Club Board by fellow Trust Board members Jon Bowkett, Gavin Foxall and Shaun Johnson, subject to them completing the League's formalities. Jason Turner will also join the Board as Chief Executive Officer.

The Club's majority shareholder, Les Scadding, is in full support of this move. The Trust Board would like to place on record their gratitude for the significant work the outgoing board have accomplished throughout their tenure.

This is an interim step towards the Club becoming a supporter owned club, under the banner of the Trust, as outlined in the recent communication.

Food for thought but unlikely at a club any higher than league 2.

Actually, the easiest place for a trust to fund a club is in the Premier League, it's just getting there that's the problem.
