Welcome to the site mate! Any issues give us, or one of the other mods, a shout...

I like your positive outlook, I think we have all become quite pessimistic after the last few seasons.

Perhaps we should be more positive. I agree we do however need to address our LB and maybe CB.

I am also realy looking forward to next year. Anything will beat the last!

The first target is presently underway and that is to improve the squad. This is an ongoing target but one that for reasons known to us all we have not been able to do properly for a number of years.

The second target, I believe, is to set oppositions more problems than they can handle. With our 'new' squad we do have the possibility of making strategic changes both in preparation for, and during the match.

The third target is to be able to cover as many positions as possible in case of loss of form or injury without loseing quality.

The fourth target is to win more games.

The objective of all those targets is to climb the table as far as we are able. Naturally I would like that to be to the very top and at this moment I don't think it is impossible. However, I would not saddle them with achieving that as the prime objective. By turning losses into draws and draws into wins, I believe that a spot in the top 4 is realistic.

There has been a lot of talk above about Gerrard. Having him back to full fitness will be like having a new big money signing in our side. We have not seen the best of him for nearly 2 seasons - partly through injury, partly through trying to play with and off Torress and partly through the expectation that he had to "carry it all on his own shoulders". Now he can look in front of him and see quality options open for him.

    Dave.
    Good points.
However there is one thing I'm a little bit concerned about regarding Gerrard. How will he react to no longer being the ''Talisman''?.Luis Suarez is the new ''Talisman''.However second thoughts there is nothing wrong with having two ''Talismen''.One of the encouraging signs and this was evident in the second half of the season and will be more evident now is that we will not look like a poor side when Gerrard isn't in it.

From an outsider and with no anti liverpool spin on it....

You have got to aim for top 4. Forget everything else, get knocked out of cups early in order to concentrate everything on top 4.

Cup runs no longer give teams that much needed boost like they used to, infact they often hamper clubs and work against them....Birmingham, Arsenal etc...

An interesting thought. Thanks for the 1st line - it's appreciated.

If this was a European season for us then I would tend to agree with you. However, as we have the opportunity to give squad members 'pitch time' I think that we will probably look for good domestic cup runs.

-Get into the Top 4 first and foremost, any higher then that can be seen as a bonus.
-Have decent cup runs. We could even realistically win the Carling Cup.
-Beat Man Utd home and away
    -Beat Chelsea home and away.

If I am being completely honest, it would not shock me one bit if we went and won the league this year. We don't need too many flashy players, let Suarez take that role, whilst the others around him play good old-fashioned football and we could win the league. All depends on our results against the lower teams e.g. Swansea, QPR etc....

He's had this situation with Torres don't forget!

I think Stevie has at least 1 top class season left in him, and the fact that we no longer NEED him in our midfield for the first time in ages will, in my opinion, be the thing that allows him to re-find his form. People are quick to forget just what he can do, and if Giggs can adapt his game til 37 then Gerrard can certainly do it from the age of 31 onwards for at least a few years.

I think one thing that hasn't been talked about fully is the character of the players we are signing, in that all of them could stay at the club for the rest of their careers providing both parties do well. We've seen what has happened with Tevez- he costs a load of money, then in between amazing performances unsettles the whole squad and finally engineers a move, at which point the player you've built your entire progress around has to be replaced.
