Wasn't there a period in the 80/90's when ''modern'' teachers were saying that kids should be encouraged to spell as they hear. I thought at the time it was probably a way out for the teachers who were unable themselves to correct the pupil. I think so many youngsters now have text/facebook speak as their first language. My gripe is the use of ''off of''. What happened to simply using ''take that object FROM him'' or ''take that OFF him''
You're right there. Difficulty also that I found even if I tried a bit of language, they know we are English and therefore immediately reply in English so they get the language practice and not us
Some of the things that annoy me most happen with people's use of English language. "Fed up of saying this". "I could of won that with my eyes closed". "Your a dickhead". "I have literally just exploded with excitement". "No really, I am generally happy with that". "You were talking about red cars and a red car went past, that's ironic".
"speaking my language if I'm putting food on their table" Have you not got that 'arse about tit' Terry "spend my time flicking through a little pocket book to learn how to ask where the nearest toilet is" That's why we decided to learn before you went again
Well in a literal sense, you're right, they're putting food on my table yeah I'm ****ing paying for it though. You don't go on holiday to graft do you? I mean, I'm not rude with it I know the basics to get by, thank you, please, good morning, hello, here's your tip you scrounging bastard even though I went to order it myself because you're too busy running your mouth with your mates. You know, the basic stuff.
Konnichiwa fellas! I had Japanese lessons in grade 3 and 4. That's all I remember Mind you the language lost my respect when they didn't have my name They ended up calling me ****ing terry or some **** name like that
See, colloquialism can be a reet ****, lol. Nee bother Terry, you know I think the world of you fella.
Always manged to pick a bit up wherever I worked! Russian, Arabic, Cantonese, Portuguese, French, italian I did a bit at night school for something to do. Odd word in Tagalog and Korean Got told I was a " cunning linguist"
Classic English attitude.... When they come to our country we expect them to speak OUR language. When we go to their country we expect them to speak OUR language
What do you lot get when you go on holiday from the locals? Being from Sunderland I mean. I always get: Where you from my friend? Manchester mate Manchester? Yeah Rooooooney!
I speak fluent Dutch, Austrian, German and French "PINT OF BEER PLEASE" Sad really that most english think like that - I can ask french & spanish "how are you" and obviously all the stuff you learned at school at 11 (Jai onze ans etc!) but never learned the language! We are very lazy because most other countries are capable in Englaish!
