I'd get my arse out in Fenwick's window if we pull this off.

GCB - You can't be comparing Willems and Haidara surely? Willems may have some defensive issues but he is streets ahead of Haidara. He is a full international and has been linked with some of Europes top clubs at 21. Haidara was plucked from obscurity and you can see why.

I'm still concerned we expect Janmaat to play every game. Seriously, who plays there if he's injured? Saylor?!

Absolutely agree. It would end up having to be Anita I think.

Or Mbemba I guess, point being that our current best midfielder and best cb are rb cover. It actually angers me that we're so obviously short at the back.

Just saying they have similar playing styles, both bomb forward with little acknowledgement that defending is their priority. If people want the defence strengthened then signing a player who's first thought is to attack isn't going to improve it.

He's a decent player, but he's definitely stalled. I think he made his debut at 18 for the national team but having had a quick look he's only played for the national team 5 times in the last 3 years. He's not kicked on and realised his potential. Granted he's still young enough to improve but so is Haidara. If we're going to sign a LB I'd much rather sign one that is proven and has more experience.

He'd be an ok signing, but nowhere near the same bracket as the three already signed and I'm not convinced he'd be a massive improvement on what we have. We need a no nonsense full back. We missed a trick not signing Cresswell last year and maybe even Mings this season. Yes he's only 18, but he's a unit and at 3 years younger than Willems is likely to become a better player than him.

I'd ask for Enrique on loan for a season personally and then look for a long term option next year if there ain't available for this season.

Few reports out there we are keeping tabs on Sam Bryam which would be one of my preferred signings. He's done well for Leeds since a young age and is starting to look increasingly like he could make the step up. Can play either side so he should be afforded a good amount of opportunities if Janmaat or Haidara gets a knock and is playing as part of a front three at Leeds so is very versatile. Get him, an out and out winger (Redmond) plus a CB (Umititi) and I'd be over the moon!

Belongs on the Shaqiri thread, but figured I would post here as well. It's probably yet another bollocks rumour.....

I think as it stands with the players we have it would either be Mbemba covering RB with someone else covering CB (out of what we have I'd go for a fit Dummett) or Haidara covering RB and Dummett covering LB. Out of those two I'd prefer the latter as I don't agree with breaking up a part of the team that's working to cover another part that has an issue.

Ideally, whoever our first choice full backs are, we'd have youngsters who were specialist full backs who would cover. I'd be happy with Haidara as back up if he showed he could develop with coaching. Dummett, for me, should be CB cover (better long term prospect than either Willo or Saylor). We need to buy a proper LB and bring in a promising young RB who can cover when needed.

The top teams are not afraid to bring kids into the team who know their specialist role. I was one of the ones who thought Pardew wasn't as bad as he was made out, but a definite weakness was in not bringing the youngsters on (though that has to be a collective criticism of the whole coaching set up).

Soccer sauce are pretty good, actually. Still seems like a LOT of money for a winger who's slipped down the ranks, but it may be we're sat on offers for Cabella or Obertan.

This is clearly correct, in my mind. Dummett is not equipped to be a modern day full back, but is tall and brave enough to make a decent CB. No world beater, but a good option. Haidara is never going to be top class, so we do need a quality player - this Jetro Willems seems to be the first decent defender rumour in about 5 years.

Jamie Sterry appears to be a competent young full back, but isn't really near the first team and it's criminal for any PL team, with the money available, to be using emergency RB's (i.e. Anita/Mbemba) and one of the worst things we could do is take our best CB (Mbemba) and shift him across - it upsets balance. I still think 2 per position is essential. Not two world beaters, like the top clubs, but specialists per position. The flexibility should only come from changing tactics, not from injuries (where possible).

There are also a few rumours doing the rounds that NUFC are after Guerreiro for the LB position.

If we're after LB, I'm happy. Dummett can then be moved to the CB pool, plus cover LB, Haidara can then move to athletics instead of football which his 20p feet aren't cut out for and we can then enjoy a competent defence. Guerreiro seems a bit green to be bringing in - Willems is better, on paper at least, through the experience he has. If all we did now was sign a decent left back and no-one else left, I'd be happy enough.

Still prefer them to swap Tiote for Fer (we badly need height), and my personal opinion is get in a proper working, crossing RM (Townsend, Redmond) and sell Sissoko. That would be as good as I could ever hope for.

I think we should get Frank Clarke out of retirement, he's better than any of the left backs we've got.

We are being linked with everyone again

Williems LB- But thats because he was in Newcastle, I dont see this happening

Sam Byram LB - 4m bid put in, we will only get him if his cheap and Leeds value him higher

Raphael Guerreiro? LB - Portuguese Lb - plays for Lorient, scores goals, international looks very good

Jannik Vestergaard CB - 6ft7 only been at Weder for a year and played well - not sure this has any legs

Daniel Amartey CB - FC copenhagen - they want £11m for this 20 year old

Thauvin - Still doing the rounds, however the manager quit and Thauvin got attacked and spat at by his own fans at the weekend, so he may want out

Mason Holgate - Defender - I know nothing about him part from he plays for Barnsley

It seems the gossip windmill has blown back round to us. I dont think we are done in the market, i expect to see a couple leave and a couple join. Id love one to be C Austin and another defender, CB preferably as Haidara can do a job as can dummett, if we can get a ST a CB and a LB in i will be very happy indeed

That Guerreiro link is interesting, the valuation of Digne appearing to skew every other valuation, conveniently. Bottom line is, the one who has moved, Amavi was the best LB by a lightyear in that division last year and he went for about £8m.

French presidents at their clubs are always full of so much ****, they tie themselves up in knots over every transfer.

Personally any from Willems, Guerreiro would do me. Good pedigree.

I'm not sure about that Werder lad if he has no legs. I'm all for equal opportunity and all that but we need aerial ability and pace.
