Thought it was just me - I think for an 18 year old for his first game in top flight football in an unknown position, he did well.

Few nervy moments but he battled well (physically) with Walters which is not easy. But he will come up against tougher opponents.

Exciting prospect though but feel we lose a lot of width if he plays there - he could feed Benteke.

He also did his man to set up Coutinho

I doubt he'll start every game though. Moreno might be preferred against tougher opponents who aren't just physical.

    Yep, Lallana offered nothing!

But for an 18 year old, he battled well with that dog, Walters. <ok>

Does anyone think Lallana was asked to play a little deeper to provide cover for Gomez?

    Just a thought

Yes. Rodgers is a genius. He got Gomez to look great in his first ever PL game. He also got Lovren to play great knowing Sakho's wife would pop around our first game anyway.

I meant tougher in the footballing sense rather than the physical.

I just read back, my comment was for Jimmy who said Gomez would get a lot tougher opponents - I didn't read your comment that he was responding to - but yes I agree with you, there's a difference between tougher opponents and tougher tests <ok> Have to say he's made a good start.

Deep as in central or right wing almost?

Deep as any where but his position?

Or was it when he was hauled off that he was deep enough to allow coutinho fill in?

Coutinho makes Garth Crooks' team of the week, purely for the goal. He also says: "They have only played one game so far this season but this is a very different Liverpool to the one I saw in their last campaign." Hmmm, we'll see.

Ah, Garth. The all-seeing eye of football- nowt gets past him.
    He says this, at one point;
Really. That many? Commentators say that about our whipping-boy Skrtel more than that every game.
(Note to our Utd friends: This is not a dig at Mike Smalling, who I thought had a decent game, just at Garth for being a tit).

No. Lala is just the English Joe Allen. Does a job, fairly reliable addition for team depth but never going to be good enough for first team, we've got better players on the roster.

Here is the average positions diagram from the first half.

Lallana could have been asked to keep the midfield shape to allow Coutinho freedom, or asked to help Gomez.

Eitherway, Lallana is best just off the striker.

Personally I'd say he's best coming off the bench. Doesn't offer enough to have a regular starting position
