I remember at school in the 80's we used to pick on a guy with Asian features calling him 'Vietcong' and all sorts and like Mr Hat says you would go to the Chinkies round the corner or whatever but times have changed I suppose, this Vardy guy is just a scummy moron
It's what people perceive it to be, the Japanese don't view it as racist, I am married to one, so I have asked her, and she see nothing wrong with it.
Jap is an English abbreviation of the word "Japanese." Today it is generally regarded as an ethnic slur among Japanese minority populations in other countries, although English-speaking countries differ in the degree to which they consider the term offensive. In the United States, Japanese Americans have come to find the term controversial or offensive, even when used as an abbreviation. In the past, Jap was not considered primarily offensive; however, during and after the events of World War II, the term became derogatory
No offence, but your wife does not speak for all Japanese people. We don't even know if the bloke he was mouthing off to was Japanese, it was clearly meant to be offensive and it was clearly meant to be a racisl slur. It's unacceptable, though incidents like this do shine a light on the racism that is becoming more and more acceptable in our society.
After watching the video, and putting to one side whether the term is a racial slur or not, I would be totally ashamed of the pricks behaviour if I had any connection with Leicester City Football Club. As someone has quite rightly posted he totally looks like a chav in that video, and if he wasn't fortunate enough to be doing the job that he is he'd probably be dressed in Adidas tracky bottoms and flat peak cap. ****er!
My wife doesn't but I think she has more knowledge about that than you do. I haven't seen the video, and accept it very much depends on the context it was said in. Frankly Vardy is a twat anyhow and it doesn't surprise me that he said it in a derogatory manner. P.S. Having seen what OLM posted, it maybe the case that certain expat Japanese in other countries do find it offensive, but in Japan it doesn't seem to be the case as far as I understand.
I'm amazed your amazed. We discuss all sorts on here so do not feel your special. We also had a thread on Adam Johnson.
I'm with you AKCJ. It's nothing out of the ordinary, it's just another everyday occurance at a club riddled with sex pests, racists & supporters in denial.
Has it? I've been talking about the Ashes and the return of the Premier League but whatever floats your boat.
Erm... so have we, if you looked at the board. I wonder whether you would've batted an eyelid at this thread had it been a different Prem club?
No, his signature shows the gesture that Nige should adopt after his compensation claim has been settled.
Rob Dorsett@Dorselator Sky Sources: #lcfc Vardy and Okazaki have trained and spoken together today. Okazaki accepted apology and believes no offence was intended.
