Just out of interest I decided to google Karoo bandwith throttling. Kind of suggests they absolutely do throttle bandwidth.
I meant to ask him about it, but I know someone that uses a lot of data, and they got a letter from karoo explaining why they got a reduced service after a certain period of download. I can't remember if they called it throttling, but it amounted to pretty much as described earlier in this thread. They changed providers because of it.
It used to come under the terms of the 'fair usage' policy. If they thought you was using more than your fair share they'd slow your connection on certain things like torrents. I used to be a very heavy downloader and when I was on unlimited with Karoo they used to regularly throttle my connection
Me and my mate know this all too well, also I don't upload much but was speaking to him today and he reckons they are killing upload speeds now too
Can I ask were you got it from and what these free gifts mean I would like one myself but I am not upto speed on them
The boxes are easily picked up on eBay or Amazon....they are basically freesat boxes, the free gifts are having the channel ID's for the premium sky channels added & details how to use wifi to decode these free (with a 24 month deal for 2 years) while stating that they do not endorse doing this in order to avoid being prosecuted for copyright infringement......you are not buying the "hacks"
The basics on how these work :- Freeview box directs to encrypted Sky channel Box then contacts a server over wifi to obtain a decryption key for that channel Box then decodes that channel for you to watch The procedure is repeated each time you select another Sky channel Selling the boxes is legal Owning the boxes is legal Connecting to the server for the decryption code & use thereof is illegal The "free gift" allows access to the server for 24 months As I said the use of the server is illegal but don't expect a knock on the door from the boys in blue...not going to happen....but Sky is working with their own & other ISP's to block access to the "hack servers" so at some point you may find you are simply left with a freesat box
thanks for the information So i would need to buy one with the free gift to obtain the top sports channels
You jest but I know what I'm on about here. It's rubbish. Simply doesn't happen. Might have been the case years ago I dunno, but certainly not now or in the last 2-3 years. Bojack - uploads on standard broadband couldn't get much slower anyway. As a standard,.nationwide, they're capped at 1Mbps so that the download is as high as possible. If ISPs started throttling that further it'd be ridiculous.
I just don't understand why downloads or streaming speeds trickle almost to a halt after 4 hours, without fail. I've never watched more than 4 hours of Netflix without the quality starting to degrade, similarly there is no point me getting Now Tv to watch the golf because half way through the picture quality would become unwatchable. Like I say I've experienced this at two properties in the last five years. I did get lucky at my previous address as I had lightstream for 5 months but then I had to move, nearly 3 years on no Lightstream in my area despite it going everywhere nearby. If i could get fibreoptic I could dispense with my Sky dish also I wouldn't actually mind having Sky broadband but for the fact they can't install it in Hull because of KC!
The same thing applies to streaming from sites on the internet in case anybody asks why I use Sky, it's because i can't trust the quality of streams
Actually it wasn't in jest. I would never abuse a FACT. I know you work(ed) there. I see no reason why you'd lie about this. There's many factors which affect speeds, of which of course, throttling could be one. You've stated, from a position of some authority that doesn't happen, so, I believe you. This is similar in some respects to people assuming they've been "hacked", when the reality is, they're just stupid and have given their details away or shared them with someone else. No hacking involved. Speed reduces, or appears to, so, must be throttling. No, it really isn't.
Theoretically yes, but that would be an unwelcome accident rather than something you'd want to do, and ISPs should easily be able to plan for the amount of traffic and provide sufficient bandwidth to deal with it.
The speed reduces so what do you suggest that it then, if not the throttling, I already asked this question?
I'm going to get to the bottom of this myself anyway, my brother worked for KC until recently but I keep forgetting to bring it up with him. The issue is clear, after about 4 hours speeds drop off dramatically, until then I get a steady if not fast download speed, so why does the drop off occur, at any time of day and night?
Basically yes.....there is sometimes a few seconds lag when changing channels while the small decode file is retrieved......with many of these boxes you can also plug in a USB drive & record what you are watching (decoded)
Live coverage of the next Ashes will be on BT Sport after the broadcaster unveiled a five-year deal with Cricket Australia to show its international matches exclusively in the UK from 2016. The centrepiece of the deal, believed to be worth around £80m, will be the next Ashes series in 2017-18 when the Australians will look to regain the urn they lost to England this summer. http://gu.com/p/4bmn6 Something more to put up the subscription a little while Sky won't reduce theirs.
