Hey Everyone, I'd just like to share with you our most recent video now that the new season has started: We give our predictions for the top 4 teams as well as the 3 relegation candidates. Enjoy
The goons aren't winning the title, unless Wenger moves on and neither Utd or the goons will win the title while Chelsea have Mourinho and City continue to have players like Aguero/Silva/Toure. The only hope for Utd is that when City go through a period of having to replace Aguero/Silva/Toure, that the new signings can't reach that standard, but for the next 2 seasons (at least) only Chelsea or City will be league champions.
I completely agree with you on the Arsenal front. They've spend millions on top attacking talent but I still think they need another Centre Back as well as better cover at both Right Back and Left Back. As mentioned in the video, I think City's season all depends on the form of Aguero and the impact of Sterling (assuming he plays regularly) and United need Rooney to roll back the years and start banging them in for fun again!
Yeh it's not like United have ever won the title with Mourhino at Chelsea or Yaya, Aguero and Silva playing for City. <where a 'doh' smilie just isnt enough>
It's clear that the board have a lot of faith in LVG, but it takes time for new players to gel and acclimatise to the English (or Welsh) game.
Utd aren't that Utd anymore , that's Fergie Utd, this isn't about the past, it's about the present and future but if you're naive to believe Utd can win the title then go to the bookies as they love fans like you.
Yeh that's the latest hope for fans like you to cling to. When Arsenal were winning the double or going unbeaten apparently we were in decline. When Mourhino was winning back to back titles apparently we were in decline. Been hearing the same bollox for decades now. Nothing you're saying is new, but it's just as naive. The point isnt whether we will win the league, I'm simply pointing out your excuses for why we cant were ill thought out. As for the bookies, they dont like me, made loads betting on United over the years
I was a huge fan of Fergies management style and his way of getting that extra performance out of players, he would have the team ready to die for him, he was a one off and this isn't about excuses, more that Wenger can no longer build title winning sides for the goons and Utd still have much work to build a cohesive team that it would be naive to believe they can build a team over the next two years that will beat city or Chelsea to the title. That's why I mentioned when Aguero /Silva /Toure and Co are replaced as City will have to replace them at some point and when they rebuild they may struggle to bring in the same quality as you know yourself buying from abroad is hit and miss.
Fair enough. But I dont believe Chelsea or City look as convincing as you perhaps think. The other thing not yet mentioned is the depth in quality in the prem which imo is stronger than it's ever been. I think you'll see results where the likes of Chelsea may stumble where Arsenal or United may not. And vice versa ofcourse. As a result it will be nip and tuck between those vying for the title. There's been signs of it (among the the top 4) over the last couple of seasons but it will be even moreso this season.
I may well have set myself up here in saying Utd or Goons can't win the title but thats my take on the title race, but yes City and Chelsea have their own issues such as Chelsea have a small ageing squad, while Citys main two attacking players Silva and Aguero are injury prone and their manager struggles at time, yet I just can't see how both Chelsea and City could slip up in the same season. You may have Chesea/City split if one falls away towards the end of the season and say Utd or Goons finished 2nd but never being able to win the title, but for both City and Chelsea to miss out, I just can't see that happening. Much like I just can't see my team (spurs) finishing top four, it just isn't happening unless we make changes to our transfer policy.
Last season I said the same. You can wait for one to slip but the chances of both slipping is too much to hope for. But i think this season Chelsea are the only team to beat. If you finish above them you win the league. I think City are no better atm than United or Arsenal i.e. they are one of the chasing pack. As for United, I doubt we'll challenge based on our squad atm. BUT if we bring in either a proven CB or a first class striker then I believe we'll have as good a chance as any. Bring in both (highly unlikely) and I'd say we'll be looking very good indeed... may well place a bet then Apologies for earlier. You get so used to wums on this particular board, you forget someone might actually be giving a serious opinion
No worries Treble. I know what this board is like, everyone trying to get one up on each other, wind each other up and jump on any opinion just to get a rise! For me the premier league is a duller place without managers like Fergie & Redknapp, far too many boring sides in the league, dull managers, and yourselves and my team are horrible to watch, you may not agree but Utd and Spurs play a bland style of football but I accept that with your spending power and if all your signings settle and you sign a proven CB, that you stand the best chance (out of the chasing pack) of breaking up City/Chelsea.
Ahhh trust me I agree about the bland football. You'll see me commenting enough about that on our board!
Mate totally agree with your post and especially the above as you could have written that about Arsenal. what Boss also said is true about the managers and their brand of football not being the same. Where are Uniteds flying wingers ? Where is Spurs flowing football ? I love my team but I also appreciate the best in other teams if they are playing good football, and for the money we pay either in tickets or TV packages we do deserve good football.
I keep saying this. People seem to think that you can only have a choice of attacking football or defensive football. It's a myth. I don't want to open up a can of worms here (for the millionth time btw) but the fact we defend cr@p football for the sake of results is bull5hit. Yes you have to grind out results sometimes, but your whole season shouldnt revolve around that philosophy. When you look at the free flowing football of that Arsenal era. They werent a bunch of kamakazee fckwits. The likes of Pires, Llungberg, Wiltord, Bergkamp or Henry still had an Adams, Keown, a Sol and Cole, a Viera, Petit or a Parlour behind them ffs. Just bcos you play a free-flowing expansive game doesnt mean you dont have a bloody good defence. But now the bollox we hear is "ah entertaining football" isnt important, only winning is. Like somehow both are mutually exclusive. Why is it that lesser clubs (no disrespect intended) are doing just that and proving you can stay in the Prem. This all started in the Skysports era. You used to hear how Bolton were "playing to their strengths" and how that was needed to achieve what they did. Like you could only have one or the other. Then you compare Bolton under Allardyce to Southampton under Koeman and you see what a lazy cop argument that was. Probably bcos Allardyce was English so the pundits at Sky couldnt bring themselves to criticise him. And ofcourse to sell their own brand. As you can tell this is something I feel just a little strongly about
all i know is that i would rather watch United under SAF than them under LVG, or Spurs under Harry than them under Poch, as their teams played better football. City of two years ago did play the football we all want to see, and Southampton and Swansea want to play good football so i have soft spot for them now. Chelsea at the moment seem to play a brand of football that may win games but it won't win fans, yet when Jose wasn't in charge they were more expansive and better to watch. of course entertainment is important, and results are also important, but there has to be some balance. we need teams to play to win, as we don't want bore no score draws where both sides just defend. yet if both teams are attacking well and are creating chances and both teams are defending well then a no score draw might be the result but as it had lots of good play and chances/good defending it would be entertaining as well ! you can also watch your team lose, and if both teams played well and you lost to the better side, it is painful but you know you have watched a good game so that is entertaining. i go to the theatre/concerts with the expectation of being entertained and i feel the same about going to football.
The problem with United last year was the balance in the starting 11 - lots of attacking talent but struggling defensively. Now with the signings of Schneiderlin & Schweinsteiger they have the rock in midfield which should improve their defensive performance.. Still in need of a CB and a Striker mind you..
