One sour note- why the **** was Can not on from the beginning?

 

I thought both CBs looked good and solid at times. The two FBs will get better with games.

I think the protection Hendo and Milner offered (compared to Gerrard last year) helped them out massively too

Worked hard Gomez, Not easy against that thug Walters. Looks ten times more solid than Moreno, and had no help at all, really, from Lallana.

 

Every game so far has been ****. Except for Arsenal. For the lols.

 

Oh yeah, because everyone's really getting carried away in this thread.

 

Yes, they never gave us any time on the ball and it took a moment of brilliance to win it.
But I'm a Liverpool fan and from our point of view it was grim. I thought we lacked ideas a lot of the time, we have to be able to break down that type of team if we expect to progress.
Having said all that, it's the first game, and you can't expect too much. We got the points- and goal of the season so far.

FFS Astro, he was on from the beginning in false positions for most of last season. Now we have the opportunity to play him in his true position, we.... 'manage' him.

 

Thought Clyne was good defensively but expected more from him going forward.

Gomez was ok and is clearly talented but made a few errors and was only up against Jon Walters, who is a dog. Encouraging from him though.

Skrtel was horrendous but Lovren played well. Fair play to him.

But Can coming on was the difference and it highlights just how important the DM is - we took off an attacker (Lallana) and brought Can on and we looked so much better going forward because Hendo and Milner played with more freedom. And Can made an excellent recovery tackle late on as well.

Hendo and Milner in a two is hard working and solid but it lacks so much going forward - the attackers have to come so deep to collect the ball which then leaves Benteke isolated.

Coutinho was poor but still our best attacker on the ball - the way he gets on the ball, turns and looks forward.

Ibe tried and I admire his confidence - always tries to be positive but often found outnumbered.

Benteke showed encouraging signs and did ok - but still he and Coutinho are chalk and cheese and it looks forced. Hopefully it can improve with time.

Whilst most thought it was a boring game (and it was), we looked more solid as a unit and physically stronger. Kept a clean sheet and nicked a goal. Positive start.

 

Because rodgers only logged on to this thread at half time to get some ideas.

 

He was tried at RCB in a 3 and it worked. Any ****up was instantly replied with "yeah well he's going a good job".

Start him in his proper position in the first game of the season, a tough away with a brutal history, where he personally underperformed massively, then any ****up crushes him.

 

Full backs that actually get back. Midfield that didn't let opponents wander through. Substitutes that change the game and a class player that even though off the boil can win it for you.

There were positives in the first game of season. Definitely.

 

All seemed to improve when Firminio came on but yes he came on too late and up until the goal Cout wasn't great. What a goal, though!
