Think Yoshida is like Steven Davis. They're good solid players, but they lack a certain something and when you watch them you think that we could improve upon them. Still, he was our most improved player last season and has been a solid performer again in pre-season and Europa
Also he has a cool name and seems unlikely to leave. I have Yoshida on the back of last seasons shirt.
I'm gojng for 0-2. I originally had 1-1 down on talksport predictions ,but I have a feeling for 0-2 win for us with our recent form vs Vitesse
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33750572 BBC comment on game. Lawro has gone for 2-1 Newcastle win (though expecting us to do well this season); Graeme Swann has gone for a 2-0 Newcastle win....though he says he's glad we are playing at St James' as no one gets anything there.....er, apart from Saints who won 2-1 in January (thank you, Elia). The article points out that in the past 3 games v the Magpies, Saints have scored 10 goals and let in 1.
0 - 2 to Saints. Maya to have a blinding game and score from a corner, Steven Davies to get the second. Just cos it should happen like that
The minute I wrote it I thought some smart Alec would say that. If he has had the operation in Holland this might just mean he may have to come home by ferry.
Going for a one-nil win to Saints. Either Mane or Pelle the scorer. Would be happy with a draw however.
Just looked at the Mirror to read about our match....oh, sorry....the Newcastle game. Nice big spread with nary a mention of us....I think Newcastle must have a walk over as they appear to have no opponents. Oh good....a short interview with Tadic....talking about McClaren
Well, Newcastle did better than us in the league last... Oh no, wait. Well, Newcastle is a bigger, more populous city... Oh no, wait, that isn't true either. The press find Southampton boring...
The Mail also gave us little coverage, though at least we got a photo of Koeman in a hospital bed. JWP said, 'It may affect some teams, but we are solid and focused.' Lovely boy.
I think a lot of countries could be accused of that! I think Yoshida is a competent centre back, however he is not the quickest and his passing lets him down - he panics under pressure and hoofs it too often for my liking. Decent squad player that has improved and is pretty loyal to the club.
You feel this game is tougher, as it is the first game of the season and home teams tend to respond well. Also, players will be keen to impress their new manager therefore Newcastle should not be taken lightly despite their poor performances last year. I think we are a bit more porous but am hoping for a point, 1-1.
Couldn't predict this. Newcastle aren't so poor that you would put them as a stonewall win (even last season) and they have a new manager and are at home. Still think we are the better side, but even the better side doesn't win every game. If we win, we are a superb side and I will expect a great season. If we draw, good away result. If we lose.....totally meaningless result.
On Sky, 4 panellists asked if Saints would finish top ten again....4 quickly nodding heads. And Newcastle?.....4 frozen effigies
