I was referring to their IRA links which no one can deny and what about recently when a convicted murderer was given a cushy job by a Sinn Fein minister.

I don't deny it.
Both the GAA and the IRA had political objectives. I understand that this is not going to attract too many Unionists to the GAA, however on a sporting level, they were never precluded

It may have been justified at the time to have rule 21 just like it could have been seen as justified at the time for the OO to ban Catholics from joining. The only difference is that the GAA has seen fit to remove that rule and as yet the OO have not.

The OO extended its membership to allow Presbyterians to join solely as a political end, so I take that on board. However the GAA is not a supremacist organisation. The OO is.

I don't know why you feel the need to find a yang to their ying. There isn't an equal and opposite to everything.

It is an entirely different dynamic formed and perpetuated in entirely different circumstances. their aim is not supremacy. the result of what they do is not provocation.

I am not a fan but on an individual level I have found them to be very personable.

WOW! How did I know you would give this answer.

So the OO is about supremcy? <doh>

You're showing yourself up. You said that it was understanable for people to riot because the OO march past nationalist areas yet if the AOH were to march past unionist areas it wouldn't.

<doh>

Because life isn't as simple as saying "It's all their fault, not ours"

Some people on here have a reasonable outlook on the issues that surround our country.

You on the otherhand like to make excuses everytime to back up your presumption that Nationalists = Good, Unionists = Bad.

Hell your own logic that the police should not have soaked wee scallies rioting told us all that many posts back.

Have you read anything i have said?

I'm sure they do.

Like I said the AOH march throughout US cities on a much larger scale than over here now.
Do you think all these areas are catholic areas?

you still seem too thick to make the distinction between religion and political orientation, ESPECIALLY with regards to the States. I really would consider you one of the biggest idiots I had the misfortune to encounnter but then it crossed my mind that you may be acting deliberately obtuse

no, not really.

in a nutshell

a member of the legislative assembly in the north of ireland says that riot police acted prematurely in using a water cannon.
OP says it was a silly thing to say.
I say it isn't silly because other methods have proven to be successful in dealing with riots elsewhere.

what has that got to do with anything?

YOU said it was understandable for people to riot because the Orange Order march past nationalist areas. You have spoke about your hatred for the OO because they do not allow catholics in.

The AOH have a similar policy were only catholics can join.

Though you said it wouldn't be understanable for people to riot if these people marched past a unionist area.

Do you get it now?

this could be an interesting thread, but there are too many pages to read......is it worth it?

In a nutshell a former IRA prisoner turn politican said the use of water cannons to quash a riot was premature. The night before the police were attacked with petrol bombs, bricks and fireworks. Yet this politican said they were too quick to use it.

The fella RebelBhoy agreed with the politican and said that the police should have not used any force and hope that the trouble fizzles out.

So either wait to be attacked and/or burned or use water cannons to disperse the crowd.

What would you say would be the best option?

Nail on the head <ok>
