Bozz i certainly wouldnt spend 35 million on an injured player, liverpool didnt need to buy a striker in january it stunk of panic buy, like you say suarez was coming in anyway so one out one in, the season was over for you too so it could have been kept hold of and reassessed in the summer once the season had finished, liverpool were never gonna get relegated and they were never gonna get europe the season was a wipeout, for me and this is only my opinion you could have waited assessed carroll further during the season then made a decision based on that, had that happened i very much doubt you would have bought him and if you did it would have been significantly lower than £35 million, rememeber just 6 months earlier they were trying to flog him for a mill.

so thats 4 hours to agree a fee on the last day of the transfer window while every other manager in europe is desperatly looking for last minute deals themselves - actually make that 3 hours because you have to include the travel time to and from the medical and you have to agree terms with the player AND the money grabbing agent

Our season was far from over at the end of January. we still had the beleif that we could sneek 4th (and almost did). We needed another striekr and FSG needed to prove that they would put their money where there mouth is when it came to backing the team in the transfer market

just another thing to add to this. Carroll's injury was initially thought to only last 4 weeks meaning he would have been back for the last 3 months of the season, there were then unforseen delays

Bozz come on you didnt nearly sneak 4th, you had some great form il give u that but the top 4 were well away and even with arsenals capitulation at the end of the campaign they were confortable in 4th, in regards to fsg, they didnt at all though cos as we keep hearing the torres fee paid for carroll not the owners, yes they could have said no we are not spending i accept, but i just think liverpool didnt need to spend that amount on a player of his experience at that time, just my opinion, but its done now and we shall see how well it works out next season, for me if carroll fails to score 20+ league goals he has to be considered a failure next season, obviously he then has the following season to then prove his ability should he not get 20+.

Bozz with regards to the injury that was the same with aqua maybe your physios should be re-trained, and if they continually make errors like that you have to wonder what else they are missing, just a thought :)

I will also be disappointed if he fails to score 20 goals next year especially as we have looked to build the team around him. but on saying that Kenny has said we have signed Carroll for the long term and if he does score 20+ goals for the next 5-6 years then it will be seen as a marvelous bit of business. I think another attraction is Carroll's dominance, he is unique as he can physically dominate defenders, no other striekr (I can think of that would join us for lowish wages) can bring that.

here's a thought, say he did stay at newcastle, returned in March as anticipated and then went on to double his tally of goals... we'd have ended up in a bidding war with Arsenal and probably Man City (who would have beaten us to his signiture)

Unlike the £26Mill paid for a 18 year old with 15 goals (and that was in 2004)

its a good thought and a tough one that we will probably never know its possible but he did only play 5 times since january so i doubt that would have happened.

Torres had only scored 15 goals the year we bought him... and 13 the year before that

Carrol had scored 11 goals in 4 months.

also... Carroll & Torres had excactly the same career goal to game ratio (2.7) before joining Liverpool

How this turned from a positive, uplifting thread to a shot-down off-topic discussion..

We spent £35million on Carroll, £16million on Henderson, £7million on Adam and are going to spend £20million on Downing..

Get over it, its not your money!

Edit - I'd expect much more people going off on one if we'd signed Sanchez, Gervinho, Cissokho and Mata in one go, why? Because we'd be buying the title.

Lil_Jatt, dont use forums then, they are to debate not just all agree, i have an opinion, it may not sit well with you thats fine, but its an opinion non the less, ive said countless times on this thread its not how much you spend but how well you spend it, if liverpool win the league this season then the money has been spent well, even if you finish top 4 its been spent well.

If anyone is dragging the thread down its Raaaul his contribution is nothing more than abuse and insults, im trying hard to be as objective as possible and have a proper discussion.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but you've said it, so thats it.

I've said my opinion too, and now I'll finish.

    Edit -
    Exactly <ok>

Its you dragging the thread down by even having the cheek to come on our boards after what you said about Hillsborough on BBC 606.
