please log in to view this image The season's finally upon us and we open up with an early away game against a tough opponent. Our record at Old Trafford is appalling, despite a couple of recent wins there, so a draw would be a decent result. I'm going to keep this short and sweet for now, as our resident match thread poster has been pushed for time, but hopefully things will be back to normal soon. If anyone fancies taking over in the meantime, then feel free to offer up your services.
So early in the season anything could happen. Right now I'm not sure if our games in Germany will cost us or fire us up. It will be no disgrace to lose at OT against a side with huge recent investment but I think our squad has the skill to give anyone a tough game. Yes a draw looks favourite but only because I have no idea what will happen.
I'm travelling up to Manchester tomorrow for this one. Not as normally optimistic about the season ahead as I would like to be, because Spurs deflated me a bit last season and as things stand, our striking options are inadequate and I am not convinced we have strengthened sufficiently in the defence. I will go for a draw, but more in hope than expectation.
"I'm travelling up to Manchester tomorrow for this one." So it is you who is finalising the Kane transfer paperwork.
Yes. If we can get the deals pushed through then a striker and a keeper will come in. Beyond that, not so sure.
Think it will be a good performance but a loss...our weaknesses clear but with cause for optimism a plenty...and that will be a big improvement on our last visit to OT!
Never been less bothered about a season . I feel we have no chance and will be ripped apart . The side is rather dull to watch and if there was no Kane you might as well turn the lights off . With little chance of any "quality" being added by the end of the window , it will be a lot of pain with no gain . Utd 4 tight arses 0
Don't mean this rudely but I really hope that come Saturday afternoon that you are apologising here for being so negative ... or this is going to be a long, long season if you are right
You've got to think it's the best time to play Utd away before the new players bed in and with the uncertainty around De Gea. Schneiderlin and Depay will, in time, improve the team. We were strong at home last season, but started poorly v Swansea and it was a while before van Gaal seemed to stumble across his preferred formation and personnel. Will it be the same this time with an embarrassment of midfield permutations? Or will the quality of the new signings shine through from the start? At least Spurs have a fairly settled team.
We will see . I will be at our village fete on Saturday , helping out on the coconut shy with the local vicar . Of ourse l will apologise if by a miracle we dont lose . On the other hand the happy clappy brigade may do the same if it goes tits up .
Erm...I'll stop you there. Why? I get that Vorm has been a tad underwhelming but or... No, you can't mean.... No... It can't be true.... Is Hugo.... No, no no it can't be real. Pinch me.
Friedel left and there were some rumours about Vorm joining Ajax if Man Utd signed Cillessen as their De Gea replacement. McGee's too young and inexperienced to be our third choice, especially with the Europa in mind.
Bad feeling about this one. While they won't have time to gel, they'll be very fired up to secure their place in a very talented team. Rooney's going to be immense this season too.
I expect Old Trafford to be a fortress this season and united will not be giving away many points at home. Anything we get from this match will be a bonus, but we are more than capable of getting something from the match. I was an advocate of little change on the summer transfer thread and as such I am not that unhappy with the situation. Yes we have a smaller squad and we are short of strikers, but the players that have left most of us won't miss as they didn't play anyway. Alli looks a good addition and the defence (our worst performing area) has been strengthened. I do think united will win tomorrow, probably by the odd goal, but I am hoping that in defeat we see a performance that still gives us hope for a decent season.
It looks like both first choice keepers are going to miss out on this one, bizarrely. Van Gaal has said that De Gea's not going to play, due to the speculation about his future. Real doing their usual and going unpunished. Man Utd are in a **** position on that one, really. Lose him relatively cheaply now or for nothing next year. Pochettino has claimed that Lloris isn't fit enough to play 90 minutes, which seems a bit strange for a keeper. It's not like he's going to run out of steam, so I'm not sure what the issue is. The media are bound to link the two omissions and come to the obvious conclusion.
Lloris is a very active keeper he doesn't just stand on his line he is very much part of the defence.
But it was his wrist that he injured, wasn't it? Surely it's a case of it's either healed enough to make saves, or it's not. Maybe he's just worried that he isn't match sharp at the moment because he missed so much preseason but I'd be surprised if he's litterally not fit enough to keep goal for 90 minutes.
It was but fitness levels will be effected by not being able to do normal exercise routine. You need your arms to perform many exercises after all.
