He's trying to sound American. Maybe he is American. It would explain a lot.

Have you guys seriously never heard anyone use the phrase "My Bad" when they have done something wrong?
Either you are all over 60 or never watch anything that isn't on BBC2.

I only watch the Great British Bake Off and Desi Rascals. They're both too good to need anything else.

I've heard it, it's an Americanism used by cretins, that's all.

'My bad' means absolutely **** all. It's one of many dreadful bastardisations of the English language by Americans that for some reason people over here think is cool to use.

    They're wrong.

I've heard it. It's a ****ing awful Americanism though. It sounds ridiculous when said in a British accent which is possibly why the spanners who use it often adopt an American accent when saying it which makes them sound even more ridiculous.

I never use it and I don't get money out of an ATM, use an elevator or walk on the sidewalk. Mainly because I am not American.

I can assure you no one that knows me would ever describe me as "hip" <laugh>
Must be a regional things, a lot of people here use the term "Cashpoint" I hear that often.
I use "cash machine" myself, but I hear a lot of people call them ATMs.

There are now so many american terms established in the English langauage spoken here that it will be really difficult to stop them. I remember the French trying to stop the anglicisation of the french language. They fought/are fighting a losing battle. So many new words are coming up and most of them American that we cannot hope to control it.

It is something to do with the media too. When the press and TV and radio call them ATMs then there is no way it won't be the establsihed word. As far as I can remember Cashpoint belonged to a specific bank - LLoyds?

Milton Keynes is modelled on an American grid system. It doesn't surprise me that its inhabitants want to be American.

    Maybe.
It is a dream to drive around though, the roads are excellent.
The bad thing about it though, it when I go to one of those old "Horse & Cart" cities that have been around since Moses (Cambridge, Bristol, London), and the roads are spider webbed and ****ed up, with one way streets, endless bus lanes and traffic lights, its like entering another world, a ****ty world with traffic jams and stopping and starting every 20 seconds. First time I drove outside of Milton Keynes, I almost shat myself.

    Awesome.

That's another one, over use of the word awesome to describe things that are very definitely not ****ing awesome.

    Yeah I overuse that one.
Not so much on here, but in actual conversation.

Epic is another that gets overused (though not by me).
There are people that think literally everything is epic.
"Just had an epic nandos" "That **** was epic"
    <laugh>

I tend to think though, that blowing a gasket over how younger people talk is the first sign that you are becoming a doddery ****.
I fell victim to it the other day when at work, some 17 year old gimp described something someone said that was funny as "Jokes".
"Oh my god, thats proper jokes".

I momentarily had to resist the urge to slap him round the back of the head and start throttling him. But it passed :)

I recall having the Awesome argument with a bloke on the old 606.

He'd just been to see the film Avatar and described it as awesome.

    ****ing prick.
