Really wish we'd gone for him. http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2015/08/06/unknown-luongo-out-make-his-mark-qpr-faithful
It's the only reason I can think of. Would mean we can get them for slightly less than we'd otherwise pay as Brentford wouldn't have to pass-on as much of the profit.
They both have similar sell on fees though. Think there is only 5% difference between the two. Can't see them fiddling enough to make a significant difference
It's a theory but it wouldn't explain it all. At least part of it just has to be a that we are still not agreeing on the total amount of the joint bid. They seem to want a couple mill more than we want to give.
If we're at 9 and they're holding out for 10.5, surely we can up our bid slightly, chuck in a loan (I think Lenihan was mooted) and basically get to an understanding. Would just be an utter waste to go this far and then baulk.
I suppose applying rationality is never a safe thing to do with the Allams. Then again it's not unique to us, Arsenal and Liverpool have squabbled over a couple of million and lost out on guys like Hazard and others.
The fee for Odubajo is £3.5m, it's his release clause, we've confirmed it and Brentford have confirmed it, it's common knowledge, so unless someone bids more, nothing can be fiddled. On that basis, it's completely pointless trying to tie the two deals together.
Exactly. But as we all know, the deal is done, the medical is done.. why are we waiting to announce it? We havnt waited to announce any other player so far this season..
We should forget Andre if this drags on and go after dwight gayle. I think he'd be easier to get from palace as they've got a few strikers now
How it's being reported in Brentford... Brentford have rejected an £8m bid from Hull City for Andre Gray and Moses Odubajo. The Tigers recently appeared to be on the verge of signing Odubajo after triggering a £3.5m release clause in his contract. However, they have also been pursuing a deal for striker Gray and subsequently submitted an offer for both players. Brentford have rejected the bid on the basis that it fails to meet their valuation of Gray and does not activate Odubajo’s release clause. A separate offer of £3.5m would still open the door for Hull to sign Odubajo and the 24-year-old has made it clear he wants to join them. But Brentford want £10.5m for any deal involving both players. Odubajo joined them last summer from Leyton Orient and has made 49 appearances, featuring as a winger and at right-back. Gray, 24, also moved to Griffin Park a year ago, from Luton. He scored 17 Championship goals last season.
Why don't we just pay them the bloody money? £7m for a goal return like he had last season is where I expected his price to be anyway. We **** around so much I find it irritating. We could have done this earlier and had them in time ready to play this Saturday - now we won't have either and we seem hell bent on screwing up the chances of signing either. The Brentford owner is a wealthy man and also a fan of the club, clearly he doesn't need to sell. The price for Gray is the price. Unlike most of our players, Gray still has a lot of time to run on his contract.
So, going by the above, we bid £3.5m for Odubajo and activated his release clause, completed a medical and he decided he wanted to come here. We then decide we want Gray as well, put in a joint bid in which we back-track from Odubajo's £3.5m release clause, valuing him at less for some reason. Brentford then reject that bid and we are back at square one? It seems fairly public that Brentford want £10.5m for both, so that automatically values Gray at £7m (assuming they won't let Odubajo go for less than his £3.5m release clause). Unless there are a load of prohibitive add-ons, or they want too much of whole sum up-front, I can't imagine that this is too much of a surprise to anybody (ie they aren't exactly pricing Gray out of the market). What I cannot really understand is in all this why we don't just get Odubajo in (given we obviously agreed a deal) and then start negotiating on the structure of the Gray deal separately- anyway, I guess this will all be sorted one way or the other by Friday.
I'm assuming no-ones seen the paper this morning. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Hull...dubajo-Andre/story-27553124-detail/story.html It's all about the 21 day clause
