Except when they wanted to keep or sign a player over the age of 30 for more than a year.

If you think United weren't prepared from day one to sign VDS on longer than a one year contract then you're even more clueless than I thought.

Many hands round one throat. Sadly it makes little difference as his brain requires no oxygen.

It's what I said in reply to your other post. It was seemingly the policy under fergie and Gill. Van gals happy to give over 30s a longer contract.

It applied to players who are already signed not new signings. It wasn't my policy, just the clubs. Evidently it wasn't stuck to at all times.

That won't be LVG's policy change. It will be the clubs. LVG doesn't pay the wages and he's already stated that he will be gone at the end of his contract which is only a couple of years away.

    You're clueless.

Yes, 3 or 4 United fans on a forum of 10 United fans. A real representation of the wider United fanbase.... <doh>

Starting to sound like sisu now.

van gaal picks the team. He selects the squads. I suspect he is involved in contracts.

Trust me pal, you may represent the views of a United fan base but not the United fan base. You're United's Astro.

    Congrats!

Sure. Except it's not me rewriting history is it. It appears to be someone else making wild claims Young was one of our best players over the last two years. That's the sort of thing astro would do.

No, Astro would claim that Di Maria was a great signing and he'd never leave United after one season, either by choice or because the club wouldn't let him! Seriously fella, you're clueless.

You're naive if you don't think van gaal is involved in transfers and contracts. We're not Madrid. The manager at United is given full control over football matters. That includes who comes, goes and renews and for how long.

I doubt any United fan expected it either. I don't recall too many saying Di Maria would be a rubbish signing or that he would be leaving after just a year.

    Feel free to show otherwise.

He is of the same breed as Fergie, I would imagine if the negotiators said to him "we have offered this player 1 year but he is asking for 2" he would reply "give it to him, I have use for him" or "no, we will look somewhere else".

Well there were an awful lot that I listed. And his form was consistent throughout the season from the games I've mentioned.

What's your point here? Yes Feb is 3 months before the end of the season, but NOT the end of the season. Nowhere near.
So you accept he played well against Spurs which was around xmas. You conveniently forgot the games I mentioned before xmas -Southampton and Newcastle.

I stand corrected <ok> on one minor point btw. We can split hairs but the over arching point was he had another very good game. One of many.

Nope. I've never made a blanket dismissal of any player. The irony is, like with Young, you make blanket statements and when anyone asks you to back up your claims you come out with straw clutching. With Fellaini it was "he can head the ball at the back post" With Young it's "he cuts in on his right" Ask for anything more than that and it all becomes woolly soundbites. Compare that to about 10 specific things I have stated about each player to support a point of view.

You're the one that brought up Fellaini. Not me. In fact you're the one that's trying to turn this into a Fellaini vs Young argument. My original post (that you quoted) simply stated examples of Young's attributes that anyone who's actually watched him play last season can appreciate. And the vast majority of fans do.

I doubt it, but you've latched on to one minor point and gone to town on it. No surprise though, that's your problem mate. You have no real interest in what anyone else has to say. Any difference of opinion is never an opportunity to discuss, instead your whole approach becomes disingenuous to the point you're picking up one error on a Man of the Match in one game to say "ha I told you so" and getting over-excited like you've won something. That's why it's hard to take you seriously. Anyway I'll go back to the point in my original post before I was drawn in to this bollox.

Nonsense. He will be allowed to identify players and perhaps suggest price tags but he won't be allowed to dictate contract policy. He's been there for a largely unimpressive 12 months!

It's not his money. The Glazers won't let him dictate how the money is spent. If anything he's currently in a weaker position as he blew so much money on Di Maria and Falcao (unless the alternative view is he didn't have a say in those transfers?!).
