Our pressing is what cost us at times last year... too gun ho.. need to press at the right times, not run around after the ball like headless chickens!
DM in front of our defence can't do the pressing too high up.. you look at Barca, Busquets, does his pressing in a small Window just ahead of the defence and just behind the AMF's at times last year the likes of Lucas, Can, Hendo were pressing way too high!

 

But you admitted lovren is a good defender behind a capable midfield. But you're saying we should get rid of lovren because he's not good enough, before we get the competent midfield.

Whos to say anyone else we get in the defence will look better if the midfield isn't good enough?

maybe sort the midfield out and lovren will look like the Southampton defender we thought we were buying.

I don't agree. Certain players in certain positions should press immediately every time for the first five to ten seconds (or Brod's seven if you prefer ). Not only do we get a chance of regaining possession quickly but it also give the more defensive player time to get in position.

 

Nope - I said they LOOK good. No one will question a defence which doesn't concede. Even though Soton didn't concede many, he still makes the same basic errors - there's only so much a quality midfield can do.

It's the same with our good run last year - we stopped the flow of goals but we were still poor defensively. The midfield constantly exposed the defence.

Lovren was always the weak link in the Soton defence.

And I don't agree with babysitting - so we have to play a certain style and put quality players around Lovren for him to perform well?

I rather have a defender who can hold his own and performs to his own high standard.

 

Reign it in a bit, not allowed to be positive on this board or else tee just blindly following Rodgers
