    Musical wallpaper....nothing worse!

I wonder if sitting him down with Dark Side Of The Moon, a sunset and a pair of headphones would work...(along with strict orders to sit and listen!)

OK Computer would be good for PL to listen to.

I'm sat here thinking what a person would like if they like the stuff out of that programme. 1940s-60s Ballads.? Swinging Jazz.? Film Musical Soundtracks.? There's loads of it out there.

What I wouldn't be asking PL to listen to is 1983 - Hendrix or Almost Cut My Hair - CSN&Y, or anything by Nick Drake yet, for example. One step at a time. :)
How about this.? Beach Boys, circa 1970. Surfs Up, off the album of the same title. Apologies for the video. It was the only one I could find with the original version off the LP. Accessible.? Better than something Simon Cowell might back.? Upto your ears. :)

Funny you should choose the Beach Boys. Steve Kalinich who did a lot of work with them is a BIG fan of Fable :)

Beach Boys were always playing in my Dad's car and they always remind of the long car journey from home to sandbanks as a kid and getting the chain ferry over to the bay on the other side the road to Studland.

    8 track again

Great choices all. And Surf's Up is my favourite Beach Boys track. Yum yum.

Speaking of Beach Boys/Steve Kalinich - here's one definitely for TSS and Chilcs that you won't have heard before (I'd put fair money on) but I think is great. Might not be for Pomps quite yet though...

Well there you go. I chose the Beach Boys simply because they were a band who got tired of trotting out the [admittedly very original for the time] popular sound of the day on their side of the world. Surf's Up is typical of the kind of music they had begun to do by then. Capitol, their record company, wanted them to go back to their surfing sound but they'd well and truly had enough. And Brian Wilson led their way with some very personal and poignant music. Those aren't his words though. Van Dyke Parks wrote the lyrics.

And PL likes USA culture. And if he likes the USA, he has to like the BBs.

So Black. When I wrote the other day that Spike Milligan and Mr Norrell both hated Portsmouth it meant nothing to you.? :)

Interesting. Liked it almost straight away. Sounded like a combination of Art of Noise and BrianEno/David Byrne.

You should check out the Cold Crows Dead album, plus Paul Steel's solo work, April & I - he's a very talented guy.

Sorry! Did you write it in Koeman's Korner?

I have to admit I seldom venture onto this thread.

    I did. You're forgiven. :)

Incidentally, in Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, a naval officer asked Mr Norrell what he thought of Portsmouth. He replied, I hate Portsmouth.!

    So there you have it.

I've never heard of it. Just wiki'd it though - looks brilliant. Will have a look for it in Waterstone's.

    I shall note those down.

BTW, do you think this XTC track would be too much of a stretch for PL. It is heavily BBs influenced. And it's almost present era music:

He might not like it, but I do! Very Brian Wilson, as you say.

Nope...lots of plugs and connect to my broadband. It was the set up that I didn't fancy....not the simple plug ins. It will probably be straight forward, but I was put off by the 'if this doesn't happen, do this' bits. And there was some test required if my 'diddlebob' or something wasn't compatible.
