You HAVE to watch what players are doing on the pitch. I'm amazed at anyone who doesnt. When you're watching a player wtf are some ppl seeing??? Are they holding onto the ball, do they have a football brain, can they read a pass, can they pass, where do they pass, do they combine any level of technical ability with pace, can they actually tackle. Young isnt world class, but he showed a consistent level of competency in all the above as a result of a real desire and hunger to perform under a manager that knew how to get the best out of him.

When club fans are voting Man of the match performances for a player against City, Arsenal, Palace (helped us win after a dip in form), Sunderland, Preston in the FA Cup, and second only to Carrick against Spurs, you have to accept the player is playing well. But then, some of us can already appreciate that by actually watching what the player is doing on the pitch.

If people were watching young, then they would see he is a very one dimensional player these days. For someone who is two footed he tends to run at a player before cutting back with his left foot before whipping in a cross (used to be shots as well) in.

Now this is great for the Villas, Sunderlands and Palaces of the world. I would hope for a little more invention at United, especially after suffering with Young and Valencia for years. Both are very one dimensional, predictable players. Both work hard and always put effort in which is great but not enough.

As for the games you list. When exactly were those games? Would you say they were close to being tha last few months of the season?

Now to spice it up a little bit. Trebles favourite United player (who kind of undoes your post above) actually won the match awards against City and Preston. Sorry treble.

Herrera couldn't get into the team until later on in the season and yet you said Young couldn't be under consideration as he hardly played before Christmas (which as I've pointed out was more bollocks). The fact that Herrera was new to the PL but Young wasn't is irrelevant unless you're judging the best newcomer (which we aren't discussing). Is Herrera the more talented player? No doubt. Will he go on to be a bigger and better player for United than Young has been? Only injury will prevent that from being an inevitable outcome. Is he a Hipster's wet dream? Definitely! Across the whole season Young was the more consistent player. If you want to select a handful of games then Mata could also be your outfield player of the season despite the fact that he also couldn't get into the team until later on.

Who said he was amazing under Moyes? When you start misquoting people you may as well just admit that you've painted yourself into a corner.

I'm sure I've criticised Young in the past. As I've said, I don't particularly rate him. I will give credit where it's due and am not just obsessed with ****ing over fancy foreign signings like you are. You've made a royal tit of yourself for months over Di Maria! There's very little you're correct about by the way. Very little. You're the reason people roll their eyes when I say I'm a United fan!

Your first paragraph actually CONFIRMS you dont watch players. You do this time and time and time and time again. You post cliches and generalisations, and you've done it once again.

EVERYONE knows he cuts in on to his right. Everyone knows that's a predictability in his game. You just brought up a tired old lazy remark which actually didnt address one of the attributes I actually listed in my first paragraph that you quoted.

That's the difference between you and me mate, I can offer specific exampkes bcos I base it on what I watch the players actually do. You just make general statements. Explain to me how him cutting in on his right counters the list of attributes I mentioned he demonstrated???

I dont understand what your last paragraph was on about tbh. Doesnt make any sense.

Herrera was also injured. You may recall he had broken ribs. We attempted to play him but seeing as his ribs were broke, he was gash. He was also new to the league and started relatively well. He certainly improved our midfield from previous seasons. When mata and he were played together, they helped us produce some of the best football we had played in a long time.

I think you need to take a step back as you spouting gallons of bullshit these days. There is nothing wrong with rating players, English or foreign. It does not make you a better fan because you like the English player over a fancy named foreign player. If anything it shows just how out of touch you are because I am not sure if you have noticed, but English footballers are not all that. Some might say they are overrated, overpriced and little better than average. Shouting about how great they are doesn't make them great nor does it rewrite history.

As for embarrassing myself over Di Maria? I stated nothing was happening. Until a few days ago nothing was happening. Now it is and he's shown himself to be a cowardly man who lacks a spine. This is on Di Maria, not me or anyone else.

Finally, did you or did you not claim was one of our better players under Moyes?

I said over the past two seasons he was arguably our best outfield player. You seem to have focused exclusively on the Moyes season and the last ten games of last season and come up with two different names, Januzaj and Herrera both of whom categorically can not be considered the best outfield player over the past two seasons. The clue is in the word "two".

As for Di Maria, you spent all season claiming he was doing well, endlessly citing his assist stats and all of the close season insisting he wouldn't leave. Incorrect on both accounts. What a surprise!

Football isn't actually just about stats. Watch a game, preferably at a stadium, without worrying about stats and just focussing on performance and team play. It will be a revelation.

You're a Hodgson Hipster. ****ing clueless but under the misguided apprehension that you are some kind of modern football aficionado. In fact you're a Hodgson-Rodgers Hipster.

No treble, it confirms I do watch players because that is what young does almost every time. Same as how Valencia will almost certainly drill a low cross into the shins of the first defender? This isn't something plucked from thin air, this is what he does. You can go and watch hours of footage if you like to try and fail to disprove this but you will be wasting your time.

You can only get away with the same trick so often. Eventually it gets found out and you get found out as a player. It happened to Valencia. It will happen to Young.

The last paragraph is about Fellaini. Man of the match v city and Preston. You seem to be able to praise young for very little yet are unable to praise Fellaini, even attributing some of his high points to Young.

I stick by my opinion. Neither are good enough. I've wasted enough time laughing at some of the utter bullshit being spouted in defence of a player who has been an embarrassment most of the time.

The hypocrisy and irony of some of you is fantastic. The amount of times I have had to defend players while some of you rant just how **** they are. Players who have actually contributed to our success as key players. Nani and berbatov being two prime example. Slated by almost all, yet done more in a season than young has done in his entire career at United.

    Move on lads, it's boring.

Young was gash, absolutely and utterly gash under Moyes. In no way, on no planet, under no circumstances was he arguable anything but gash under Moyes.

For a few months at the end of last season he found a bit of form. He played well. He played for a contract and got one. Fellaini also played well as did Valencia. Fair play to them all but unfortunately we as a club need a little more going forward. If all 3 were sold right now, not one United fan would care.

Your last paragraph is bollocks btw. Try telling that to the 100s of people employed by clubs to keep data on literally everything a player does. Almost nine of that information comes from watching a game in a stadium. There's a reason managers re watch games over and over again. Football is very much about stats, tactics and planning. The 90 minutes we see as fans is only the final result of days, weeks and months of hard work and analysis.

This is where you're missing the point. Are Young and Valencia good enough to take United to where we would all like the club to get to? No and it's one of the reasons why even under Sir Alex, the apparently clueless manager who signed them, we weren't as dominant as we would have liked. But that's not their fault and it's too simplistic to say they're **** when more talented players are contributing less. The fact that Young has arguably been our best outfield player over the past two seasons speaks volumes about the performances of a lot of other players. You seem to be confusing ability with actual performance. Probably because you have a very limited grasp of the game.

    Try not posting bollocks. <ok>

For the record, a strand of hodgesons hair knows more than you do about football. It's why you are on here and he is manager of England. Same with Rodgers too.

Probably best to not try and use top level football managers to prove a point about someone not knowing anything about football.

I said football isn't actually just about stats. You say that's bollocks so you are saying football is just about stats.

That would mean there is no need for managers like Sir Alex. He could be replaced by a statistician.

I don't think that would work well.

Do you actually READ what ppl post??? You are so obsessed with your narrow minded view you dont actually READ. Go back and read what I've written on BOTH of my posts and you'll realise your wrong on both points (including Fellaini).

FFS how can anyone have a conversation with someone who's not evem willing to listen before agruing <doh> Fcking hell. I hate saying this but I swear the only difference between you and Matth is that he's been diagnosed and you havent. Ppl have to spell stuff out to you and you still read right over it. Go back and read what I've written ffs. Give your fellow posters that much respect.

Your admiration of Hodgson and Rodgers is duly noted.

Sir Alex signed Young and Valencia. Why did he sign two such awful players? What does that say about him?

Fergie was not devoid of mistakes. He made plenty of them. Some far worse than others. He was also loyal and accommodating. Anderson was here for 7 seasons, cleverley for 4.

If young was that good, over the past few seasons, I am sure you have many examples of it. Treble posted a few (all at the end of last season) and Chief mentioned his debut season (where he was very good, go watch it). Those periods he was good, you have no argument from me about that. What I disagree with is that he was good for all of last season or any of the season under Moyes. I also don't think he had done enough to earn a contract with the club but, as originally stated, wouldn't have been to unhappy had he reduced his wages and added another year.

He got 3 years, which is mental. Especially considering we spent many years refusing to give van dear sar and gigs more than a year extension due to them being over 30.

Football is far more complex than stats or a Saturday down the match.

To dismiss stats is as daft as dismissing someone like sir Alex. It takes a combination of all the elements to make a top football club. As fans we only see a very small part of it.

Stats alone are useless. In football and anything else.
