Yeah, well, in a few years we might as well just lob the whole lot off, it's gonna be redundant by then.

Intelligence has nothing to do with blind faith. I think about ridiculously irrational things all the time, as I have an anxiety disorder, but it has no bearing on my intellect. The fact that people who work for NASA are religious doesn't add any gravity (excuse the pun) to supernatural activity whatsoever.

Religion spread because people were uneducated, so they believed what they were told, until clever people disproved things like creationism. Now religious leaders have moved the goal posts, saying things like 'It's only an analogy' or that the bible is 'only a template, rather than literal', the goalposts have been moved conveniently now so that their creation sits just outside the parts of physics that mankind still doesn't fully understand.

Let's not forget, people get much more from religion than just the bullshit 'god healing' and 'eternal forgiveness'. Religion bonds families, it keeps a lot of people pure, it helps families get over losses and it brings communities together. There's nothing to say you have to believe everything they tell you, you are allowed to take only some values. Those people (I'm going to go out on a limb here and include your Mrs and my Mrs) usually are sane, pleasant and very positive people.

There`s a lot of conjecture on the subject. One idea is that there is no place of punishment for the human soul. After death, for the believers, the soul moves on. For non believers there is nothing. It ceases to exist.

The punishment place is The Abusso (The Abyss) and that`s reserved for Satan and his gang.

Sorry mate you can't come in, you didn't believe this place existed.

Really? Look at that bloke there, he killed 40 people with his bare hands, he's in.

    Yeah well he believed.

That's the criteria is it believing?

    Yeah.

Ok, I believe. Seeing is believing. Let me in then.

    It's too late, soz.

Well, I'm lost now, what am I suppos.... oh for **** sake, Jimmy Savile? How's he got in there.

    He believed.

Did you punish him for tickling all them disabled kids on the tuppence?

    No.

Does he get beat up off the other believers?

    No, no violence allowed.

    Where do I go then?

Don't care, you're just not getting in here.

Well I guess that's it then isn't it. When's the next bus?

    No buses.

**** sake, have you got Stephen Fry's number then?

I was just creating one scenario.

Would you rather be in hell with clever people and all animals ever, or in heaven, with a bunch of Jihadis, Hitler, Jimmy Savile and crazy yanks?

Believing is the criteria that gets you entry, I think we just need to change the signs on the doors around pal.

Can`t recall where I read that now. Maybe I got the wrong word in `believers`. The `goodies` moving on and the `baddies` ceasing to exist might make more sense. That would still imply a judgement of course.

It`s all conjecture anyway but good debating material as nobody can be proved wrong.

    That's the worst part!

The fact that it involves a judge and jury to decide, makes it too flaky for me. I'ma just carry on like I am for now, let me know if anything changes in the meantime!

There was another idea where if you did good things your soul got lighter and it went upwards. If you did bad things it was weighed down by sin and went downover.

I quite like the idea of that as it means you can be a bit naughty but if the good outweighs the bad you can still go upwards.

In my case probably extremely slowly. <laugh>

That`s it! Your head gets lighter cos your soul`s got heavy with sin and sunk to the bottom of your skull.

    Why didn`t I think of that. <doh><laugh>

It sinks further, into the pit of your stomach and starts rummaging around down there, swishing through your pints and your kebabs until eventually, it runs for freedom, that's what makes you puke.

Funny how we talk about religion so often when most on here are confirmed atheists. Most people have a "spiritual" side without necessarily having a religious conviction. And how many of us get superstitious before a game?

Maybe we all just die none the bloody wiser...?

I have no spiritual connection with anything.

There were 5 Arab girls spotted kicking ****e out of a girl in a bikini in public the other day, let me tell you this, if I was within 500ft of that incident I would have spiritually connected my boot with each of those Arab girl's faces.

That's my religion, believe in doing the right thing, even if the masses tell you it's wrong.
