Without claiming to be in the know, Jon Marks said last night that he wouldn't be surprised to see a couple more players sign before the transfer window closes.
Seems as if we are starting to upset some Udi fans. "Two years ago he was too expensive for Udine while now there are no problems for Watford. We are becoming the doormat of Pozzo." or "****OffWatford" This comes about from the possible signing of Alessandro Diamanti.
like the bigger brother throwing a fit when the younger brother gets the girl they were both after! lol
That will be the ignorant ones. There's plenty of that sort around, just read the wobby comments on a variety of football topics.
I am sure we would not be happy if we were in their position. Hopefully there will be some rebalancing to keep everybody happy.
The only ones who are not happy are those that fail to see the big picture and those who do not accept that everything the Pozzo's do is geared towards the ultimate success of Udinese. I am a regular contributor to one of the Udinese forums which is, for the most part, of a similar level of engagement and intelligence as we have here. Yes there are dissenters of course but they are far outnumbered those who get what they are doing. Part of the problem is the lack of financial transparency between the clubs, but most seem to think that Udinese have benefitted immensely from the partnership with Granada already and see the investment with us as a good thing. There will always be someone who wants to act up like a spoilt child who now has to share their favourite toys. However if we stay up our toys will be bigger and better and we will be able to share more with our cousins - that is how it should be. You should have a look at the investment the Pozzo's are making with the new Stadio Friuli, it is beginning to look a fantastic modern stadium and I can't wait to get over there to watch a match, hopefully this season. Italian football is not without its problems but the Pozzo's are doing the right thing not only for themselves but also for the district of Friuli, for Granada and, it goes without saying, for us.
The one problem I see is that Watford will be close to the minimum number of home grown players for the squad if the purchasing continues without English players. Does home grown count if a Scottish player comes to the club who has been with a Scottish club for the qualifying time or someone from Wales as they have separate membership of FIFA?
Ak, Scotland - no, Wales - yes because of Swansea, Cardiff, Newport and the teams in Wales that play in the English non-leagues.
Adlene Guedioura has turned down two opportunities to leave Crystal Palace as he has his heart set firmly on a return to Watford. WD Sport sources told us earlier today that Palace have accepted bids of £3.5million from both Queens Park Rangers and Bristol City and granted permission for the Algerian to discuss personal teams with the Championship clubs. However, Guedioura does not want to move to Loftus Road or Ashton Gate as his preferred destination is Vicarage Road. Watford are still keen to bring him back and bolster their midfield options but Gino Pozzo, we are told, will not budge from his offer of £500,000 for a player who turns 30 in November. Palace co-chairman Steve Parrish want to at least recoup the £2m they paid Nottingham Forest for him two years ago so the situation has reached deadlock. Watford paid £500,000 to Palace after promotion to the Premier League activated a clause inserted in the loan agreement that brought Guedioura to Vicarage Road for a second time in February and have offered the same sum to bring back on a permanent basis. please log in to view this image Pozzo has a reputation for not conceding ground on his valuation of a player, as he showed with Rudy Gestede. He would not budge from the £5m he offered Blackburn Rovers and missed out the striker, who was keen to come to Vicarage Road, because Aston Villa offered more. Critics will argue you have to pay top dollar to land the players you want but Pozzo’s principles have reaped handsome rewards at Udinese and Vicarage Road and sends a clear message he will not be dragged into an auction. The situation leaves Guedioura in limbo. Someone who trained with the midfielder this summer reported how unhappy and disinterested he seemed at being asked to train with the Under-21 side. He is clearly no longer part of Alan Pardew’s plans but, as we first reported, it may be take until the end of the summer transfer window for his future to be resolved. Watford have two shirt numbers available in the squad list they announced on Saturday, No 12 and No 17, suggesting they have at least two more deals to finalise.
Ak - just to point out the rule is a MAXIMUM of 17 non home grown. There is no demand to name ANY home grown players if you don't want to - there is space in the 25 for 8 home grown but you don't have to use all the spaces. A number of PL teams named less than 5 homegrown last year I understand.
The rules on home grown seem different for the Premier League than they were in the Championship Chief executive Richard Scudamore confirmed: "As of next season clubs will be required to have a squad named of up to 25 players, of which no more than 17 can be over the age of 21 and not home grown. The definition of home grown is trained for three years under the age of 21 by somebody in the English and Welsh professional system”. "Clubs will have to declare their 25 at the end of August when the window shuts and then again at the end of January." So we are OK until end of August, then within our 25 nominated squad we would have, I assume, Cathcart, Anya, Watson, Hoban, Deeney, Murray. Which leaves two. Does Vydra count as one? Has he spent three years under the age of 21 'training' with Watford/West Brom? The other one/two could be filled be a number of of the squad at present, e.g. Dyer, Gilmartin, Doyley, Smith, Byers, Mensah, Jakubiak, Doherty. I have counted the 'non home grown' and it appears to be 18 (19 if Vydra does not count as home grown), so I guess one of those will be missing out, maybe Ekstrand until Jan?
Let him get match fit at someone else's expense and also determine without risk whether he will make the 25 player cut. Shrewd.
Lots of ifs and buts with this one. http://www.wdsport.co.uk/2015/08/watford-face-a-fight-to-land-nathan-ake-from-chelsea/
