That's really sad, and a bit unexpected. She had a meteoric rise to fame back in the early sixties, from cloakroom girl at the Cavern Club to international superstar after being signed by the Beatles manager Brian Epstein. Although she later became the face and voice of ITV light entertainment, I would rather think of her belting out songs like "Anyone Who Had a Heart". RIP Cilla
Aw, shame. Yes, I remember her much more for putting over those 1960's ballads, which were genuinely good songs. My dad, who was a bit of an opera buff, used to reserve a special criticism for her voice, which he would dissect and tell me where she was good and where it came apart. It meant he, at least, respected her talent, even if he didn't completely enjoy it. Now Dusty Springfield..
