I might be a relic but I spend a lot of time every year knocking on doors and listening to what people are saying. Without wishing to sound patronising I am afraid that you will have to learn the hard way.
Most under 25s don't read Newspapers anymore or sit in front of the telly like you and me . The media they watch is not so controlled as it has been, Cameron is even trying to destroy the bloody BEEB to stop them reporting facts and they are already R wing. We had 3 stations to watch life is very different for this generation.
No,most under 25's are worrying about who is going to win X Factor, bake a fecking cake or win a dancing competition, same old, same old.
There we are that proves your bias and arrogance , nobody cares about what was popular in the 60s 70s and 80s they don't like your music taste you are an old git and the planet has evolved. I do not watch any of those shows ,I rarely sit in front of the idiot box I would rather stream something of my choice online. <not just porn>
I am 39 and can state that all music made since the 1990s is **** for you that is probably 1970s . My dad had a Lambretta moped and a suit that cost more than the scooter, to me that is mental but that was the time he lived in so just accept that you and soon me are not going to be around forever and the next generation have their own minds. The English archers considered the use of crossbows in battle cheating ,
Ah yes Hatton. The left winger who got control of Liverpool Council - a solid Labour heartland - who managed to turn it into a Council that Labour didn't get back for 25 years. Another example of how the electorate react to ' a man of the left '
I have no Idea who you are on about it must be a generational thing . please log in to view this image
Looking to rejoin the Labour Party by the sounds of it! http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/derek-hatton-im-bidding-back-9342300
I'm 22. I can testify that that isn't our media. I find it pretty repugnant to be honest. I may not represent all people my age, but you can't just ignore my/their opinion.
I wouldn't dream of ignoring your opinion especially as I agree with some of it but equally you cannot ignore the opinion of us oldies who have lived through spells when Labour lurched to the left and saw what happened.
Your generation and mine partly has failed it's youth and they are expected to pay the countries debts left to them and the growing o a p generation's pensions. The way Cameron has alienated them is a disgrace . At 16 you are old enough to join the army get married and sent to Iraq or Afghanistan but you need to be 21 to receive minimum wage for an adult. . .The UK minimum wage will increase to: £6.70 an hour for over 21-year olds (20p increase) £5.30 an hour for 18- to 20-year-olds (17p increase) £3.87 an hour for under 18-year-olds (8p increase)
And you will have to be 25 to get the so called living wage. I agree that it is all wrong but I cannot see how my generation can be blamed for when we were born or the fact that advances in medical science have allowed us to live a lot longer. As to why Politicians pursue such policies perhaps. as a generalisation, it is due to the fact that older people tend to vote and younger people don't.
I'm glad there are a few left like yourself and Cruyf that don't just protect what they have and screw the rest below , my dad voted bloody UKIP . They buy the Express fore the crossword and get brainwashed by the scaremongering.
The reality is that the youth vote just isn't strong enough to swing an election. The interested tend to be very loud in their views but that's not representative of the apathy that is also present. The young voters joining labour are very likely to be new voters they the ones who voted for parties like the greens or previously the lib dems. The large swing block of voters is the cmiddle aged middle class, this is the group that wins elections as they tend to coasele to the party that is closest to the centre/centre right. These are the voters that thatcher attracted with the right to buy and small business loan, this is the group that Blair focused on and is the group that the current government persuaded most that they see a safe pair of hands. I've already said earlier in this thread I'm a Tory voter, but also that I'm one who values the mechanisms of politics there is a need for a strong opposition for the system to work labours infighting is preventing it from happening and if Corbyn wins it will be too easily dismissed in the media to become part of the discussion. Personally I think it's great that there is someone in the political shpere that represents your feelings and it should be exciting but always look at the reality behind it is. People were saying elsewhere in this thread thing it would help labour win back Scotland. Frankly thus isn't where labours fight is, the SNP provides left wing votes, there are no Tory seats there yo win and that's what labour needs to take. Ultimately you've got to question how a leader like Corbyn is going to persuade people who voted Tory previously to vote for his Labour Party.
That's exactly right. Labour has The North and parts of The Midlands plus large parts of London. But the demographic is such that they need to win seats in non traditional areas too. we couldn't even get Norwich North,Yarmouth or Waveney back. Those three seats are essential to a Labour majority and JC isn't going to win them over. That type of target seat will move further out of range. Political parties can't march in front of the electorate, they have to march with the band in front or they end up with no band at all.
