Firmino was good - some really good runs, and should have got an assist and won a penalty. Work rate was good as well.

Benteke was ok - few nice passes and scored a worldie. But he missed some very good chances.

When he had one saved which the keeper deserves credit and markovic played it 5 yards behind him on other.

It's not as simple as that IMO. It's through coaching and neither have ever been coached to play such a role.

They are very good at pressing and putting players under pressure but they lack intelligence, spatial awareness and positioning to be good defensive midfielders. And to be honest, it would be a shame to limit them because their strength is supporting the attack.

Again SOMEONE has to.

At barca Yaya Toure was considered that player. At city he is indulged. I'd rather a top player told to sit than a journeyman which Lucas is getting towards now playing

Not sure what Ings offers us Borini doesn't already?

More than half of Benteke's goals have come from set pieces or crosses - he will get neither at Liverpool. And since his first season, he's been poor bar to Sherwood arriving.

Again with Milner, not sure what he offers us that Henderson doesn't already - both Milner and Henderson will be on over £100k a week. Such a waste of resources.

I'm crying at the thought of signing Benteke. I know Tim Sherwood tactically outclassed Rodgers before but EVEN HE knows that LFC is a bad fit for Benteke - we don't play long balls or put crosses in!

How can Rodgers and the committee not see this??

Signing Benteke is just insane - makes no sense whatsoever. He won;t compliment the style we play, or the players we have. For the amount we will spend on him, we can get far better around Europe.

He's not even that good - he's extremely lazy and only effective if you pump long balls or crosses - which we don't do. Bar a good first season, he's been average in the past 2 seasons in a side which do play to his strengths. Poor movement, poor on the ball.

To get a better idea of what he would be like with better players around him, look at him for Belgium national team. Origi is far more talented.

Utterly senseless.

Struggling to understand the Benteke signing - his movement (or lack there of) is poor.

Read an interesting analysis on the goals he has scored:

- only scored 12 non-pen goals this season.
- of which 7 have come from crosses
- LFC put in the least number of crosses in the entire league bar Swansea.
- of the 5 that didn't come from crosses, 3 came against QPR who boast the worst defence in the league

Could be wrong - will have to dig it up. <ok>

And the reason I discount it is because how many crosses do we put in? Which of our players can actually put in a decent cross?

The point is - he will struggle unless we adapt to his style of play.

This is the thing - if we want to get the best out of Benteke, then we have to play a different way. Why is Rodgers hell bent on making Benteke work but didn't do the same for Mario? Mario is far more talented and has been poorly managed - he has been poor himself but we could have got far more out of him.

I'd sooner keep Mario and actually use him properly than spend £25m plus on Benteke.

And signing Benteke pretty much nullifies the strengths of Coutinho and Firmino. With regards to his goals, there's a common theme - he scores when the team plays to his style i.e. long balls and crosses.

That went well.

Enjoyed that game. If we can get Sturridge back then we have some good strength in all areas.

Reckon we have some really good attacking players and with competition for places im hoping, Benteke, Firminho, Coutinho, Ibe, Mark O'Vich, Sturridge, Ings and Teixeira can all push each other and give us a continuous high performance level. Midfield of Can, Hendo and Milner picks it self and I really hope we see some effort from youngsters, Chirivella, Allan de Sousa, Brannaghan to push these guys as I dont see the same level of performance happenning with Allen/Lucas in the team.

Back four has to be Skrtel, Sakho, Clyne, Gomez at the moment, But really hoping Moreno ups his game, and that Ilori can stay injury free and push for the CB positions.

All that Said, i imagine Sturridge will spend the whole year injured or return a different player. We will only see Hendo/Milner/Can togetther in Midfield in about 5 games. Lovren will play a head of Sakho. Some of the forwards will under perform. Living in hope anyway though

Not sure many defenders will lose sleep over a goal against Swindon

As I said with slightly less respect this time is that every cb in the leagues been on the sharp end of his game over the last 3 games.

I'm fairly sure Ryan shawcross is getting himself ready for a physical battle.

Nobody will be looking forward to an easy outing against him unlike balotelli who spends his time when he had any out on the right side hiding from cbs and plays kicked him to get him sent off.

So if you want to keep ignoring that fine

Agreed someone has to - but that's why I'm against playing Milner and Hendo together because they're too similar. We need a good mix of midfielders - one disciplined DM, a box to box, and a creative one.

Trying to decide which quote is the most cringeworthy here...

"“Joe Allen is one of the most courageous players I’ve seen." (Rodgers on Allen after he cut his Sunday roast for him)

"We are seeing now the player we all know Liverpool had – which is one of the best full-backs in the world.” (on Glen Johnson and that's all that needs to be said there)

"Benteke proved you wrong not me." (after a goal against a league 1 side in pre-season)

Agreed... in a team that wasn't the most creative either... not sure Villa had many games in those years where they'd create 10+ chances a game!

1 in 2 was the same record as Andy Carroll's at Newcastle in the 2 seasons before he joined Liverpool <whistle>
