I better not mysteriously lose points in the prediction thread after I threw you in with HIAG and CFC
Surely the evidence would suggest so. When do you ever hear or see players casually telling journalists their wage packet? A lot of websites which discuss a player's earnings have no sources or proof of where that information has come from. Clubs don't disclose the figures and players never seem to talk about it. That's not to say that they don't, but there's not been sufficient evidence of it happening.
I never really see footballers talking to journalists personally... Do you? So there is no evidence. You've got no idea whether friends are telling friends of friends etc. They could be, they might not be. There just as much chance of people who know telling as not telling. The only thing we know for sure is clubs aren't releasing the figures officially. That's all that there is objective evidence of.
generally journalists like to attribute quotes to people when they print stories. personally ive yet to see an article quoting a player saying how much hes on, or a tv interview with a player saying that hes loving the new £235k a week contract hes just signed
Well, sometimes they do yes. And even disregarding that, the few people who know might speak to other people who then also become people who know etc etc etc until there are quite a few people who know, some of whom might be journalists who then have the info and it won't be from an interview that can be cited.
As I have already stated, news reports never quote or give sources of where they get figures from so that would suggest that they could be fabricated, but I agree with the bits in bold. Surely though that would make all the speculation redundant because we don't know how accurate/wrong the figures quoted are. Also when I said "see", I didn't literally mean seeing players in the street talking to journalists, I meant in news reports. I don't really understand why you have to be so pedantic all the time and hang on to every word I say, but c'est la vie.
Not in the slightest. Posters on here claim that 'no-one knows' what our players get paid. That is almost certainly false. There is absolutely no evidence that 'no-one knows', but it's still peddled as a myth because it suits the argument to counter wums who have a go at the club for paying some players too much money. If there is no evidence either way that 'no-one knows' or 'some people know', and that common sense would dictate that 'some people know' is the more likely scenario, why are people still going with 'no-one knows' as their chosen opinion? That's what I'm arguing against.
Point being that 'nobody knows' is used in context when the media quote a specific figure being paid, not literally. Of course Walcott knows what he's getting paid
Far more people that just Walcott himself know what Walcott gets paid. I bet Walcott doesn't even know 10% of the people that know what he gets paid.
If you look at my original post you will notice I accidentally missed out the word us.I meant that none of us know a player's earnings.I suppose one of us could be an employee of Arsenal or possibly one of us has access to the HMRC database
Absolutely nothing. In other news I heard Cini hates Walcott because he's getting paid £200k a minute. Purple monkey dishwasher.
